What’s the film about and why isn’t your college covering the travel costs ?

The film is slightly vague at the moment. Seeing as we won’t be issued the brief for the coursework until September or maybe even later, we’ve got plenty of time to start thinking of ideas.

Basically, our two major projects for the second year are entirely up to us. We can choose where we film it, what we film; whether it be a documentary, short film etc. Since my three big projects of this year were all local, myself and others want to splash out a little and do something exciting.

The college doesn’t really help us with anything financially. We are all paying to do the course, but don’t seem to get any financial support with projects like this.

I should have finished college last Friday, but have only finished today, eventually handing my 12 minute short film in nearly a week late. Our budget for this was huge and we’ve all had to pay for that. A group of six of us had to buy a brand new suit for our main character, food for everybody, travel expenses etc. Although this came to only about £180 in total, it’s not something every student can afford!

Likewise, with our live studio project which we made 2 weeks ago today (27 May), we had to film several inserts. This involved travelling, using public transport a lot of the time. Public transport down here is not cheap and certainly not reliable. Our two presenters also had to attend rehearsals and travel from central London two or three times a week for about a month. Again, we had to pay for them to get to us – without any support from the college.

However, we do have contacts in Hungary, so we will try and negotiate a couch to sleep on whilst over there. For a little bit extra, we are going to end up with what could potentially be the best film.
