    Yup, just over 3 weeks in Thailand on a 747, my first ever trip on one, so will probably be the highlight of the trip for me!

    You could be like that Stephen King guy from BBC’s airport. He collects the animals from the aircraft.

    Thats about as close as you can get, as close as a baggage handler, but you’d get paid more and get to look after friendly creatures and evil, venomous, deadly and repulsive-to-look-at reptiles!

    Creepy!

    I was looking on Airliners.net today at photographs of aircraft which have crashed and been damaged to the extent where they are beyond repair. It seems hard to believe that one month they are flying as normal and not long later, there’s nothing left of them!

    Interesting story and photograph though.

    Thanks greekdude, counting down my days to my Thai trip and thought it was quite appropriate.

    I’ve never been on it, no.

    I think I would rather fly in first class on a normal aircraft than fly on Concorde though.

    I think that was the only bad thing about it – the runway length. I can remember thinking that i was a bit small.

    I had thousands and thousands of lego bricks and could make my own airport and I even built a BBJ (my own version) with a huge galley, a bedroom and a large seating area. Even the wings looked good – they were the right shape and had an air brake and flaps which moved 180 degrees!

    Jolly good stuff..!!

    I’m still annoyed I never got the “real” Lego Airport.

    If you have Airliner World issues from a few months ago (maybe even longer), they did do a feature on Air Jamaica in one issue and then Sangster International Airport (Montego Bay) about three months later.

    Perhaps that will reveal the fleet. My copies are not accessible at the moment unfortunately.

    They have lots and lots of A321s as I saw when I was out there.

    The A340s fly to London Heathrow, Manchester and John F Kennedy.

    But I’ve searched for you and can’t see a thing on the Internet with regard to registrations etc.

    I would question how we are going to cope without supersonic air travel. It’s not yet been confirmed whether or not Virgin Atlantic will be getting hold of some of the aircraft, but even if they do, it’s not going to be until another supersonic aircraft is introduced which could be at least 10 years away.

    Although Concorde is over 30 years old and something I’ve never benefitted from, I think… and I say it a lot… I think it is a step backwards technologically. One day we can get to New York in 3.25 hours and the next, it takes 7!

    With regard to the prices – British Airways have always charged too much for a flight on the aircraft. People want to get to New York quickly, not have to fork out several hundred pounds in supplements to sample some champagne and stuff their faces with jars of caviar!

    Obviously, prices have to be slightly higher than usual with Concorde offering just 100 seats and other aircraft crossing the Atlantic having in excess of 300, but if all the fancy service was dropped, prices could then be dropped and consequently… more would choose to fly Concorde.

    I think for free viewing at London Heathrow, your best spot is just off of runway 09R at the Esso station. It provides great closeup views of the action, with aircraft taxiing past and taking off all the time.

    There is a step for you to stand on, so you can see over the barriers on the fence and the garage have provided a large space, not sure if it’s for us people to park in or what, but they do not mind people stopping there. On a Sunday afternoon you’ll see perhaps 15 cars round there.

    Florida perhaps?

    We discussed Airtours/MyTravel some time ago and their fleet. I’m sure somebody mentioned that their DC-10 aircraft were on -10 series and did not have transatlantic range. I might be wrong?

    They also fly the 767-300 and A330-200 on long routes. I flew each of these on transatlantic flights last year – A330 outbound and 767 inbound.

    Could this be more ground-based jobs such as baggage handling, check-in staff and airport/airline staff?

    The only aviation related toys I had were a Lego Cargo aircraft and a few Matchbox jets; DHL Learjet 45, Lufthansa 747 and a British Airways DC-10. My collection of “toys” has now expanded to 2 snap-together aircraft; an Excel Airways 737 and an Airtours International A330!

    I always wanted the Lego Airport which was about £70 (about as expensive as Lego got about ten years ago) but every birthday and Christmas I opened up presents containing the usual rubbish! I never did get it, but I did a Lego train set, so I was happy!
