No mention on the Emirates website either. Flights even 4-5 months from now are still to be operated by various types of the wonderfully cramped 777.
I understand that currently the GLA-LHR service is 1x daily.
Looking at the flights for Tuesday, there are seven bmi/bmi Regional flights from Glasgow to Heathrow.
would a less than 1 daily (say 4x weekly) service be viable or would that be a little silly for domestic?
I would imagine that a large number of those currently using bmi for the Glasgow to London route would be business travellers, some of which might be looking for day return trips. Without at least a morning and an evening flight, Monday to Friday, the flight is likely to sell far fewer tickets than it does at the moment.
Just read that the affected flight(s) to be operated by British Airways during this period will be re-scheduled. No cancellations, which I suppose is good news for those who must get in and out of the city,
It was an effective/essential RAF op. – and had it been for real rather than a hoax we would not be arguing about costs/who ordered the ‘scramble’.
Nobody has made an argument about the costs of this operation. It is also worth noting that questions were only asked about who would have ordered such an operation (and who would foot the bill) before it was revealed that this was a passenger threatening to detonate some sort of explosive device.
The live updates on BBC now report 35 killed. Let’s hope that the rapidly rising death toll doesn’t rise any more.
35 of the hospitalised are also said to be in serious conditions.
I must admit, this does sound very promising. My only disappointment is that we have to wait until the winter to try it out!
I remember a similar game (or ‘simulation’) from a few years ago, which had to be paid for, and I recall it had a very complicated pricing structure. You paid over the odds for the initial game and I believe the makers wanted payment for all future updates.
Nice shots, but what on earth is that in the second to last image?
I have been reading general aviation magazines on and off for the past year or so and have bought Today’s Pilot a couple of times. And although there was always plenty of content in each issue that appealed to me, Pilot magazine seemed to have the edge, so when deciding which one to subscribe to last month, it was an easy decision to make.
Whilst this merger means disappointment for readers of the Today’s Pilot (and possibly even Key Publishing themselves), it means that those who want to read about general aviation have one [hopefully] great magazine to look forward to each month, jam packed with lots of interesting articles and more.
A6-EAC i’ll be glad to see the Back of that particular Aircraft! Every time it comes into NCL it has some sort of Problem!
The sooner the entire A330 fleet has gone, the better. In terms of comfort and facilities on board, the A330 is disappointing, especially when compared to the newer 777-300ER and A380 aircraft.
I flew A6-EAL in late October and it was a disappointing experience; ageing interior, the tiniest of personal TV screens (without the on-demand facility, but complete with an archaic collection of games), faulty tables and a countless number of faulty seats, which were stuck in the recline position.
Returning to the UK a few weeks later, I was first flying on a 777-300ER (A6-EGA, one of the newer 777s) followed by an A380 (A6-EDK, the newest at the time). It felt like I was flying a completely different airline!
Great snaps, Peter! 😉
A great catch of the Martinair 767 (PH-MCM). That was the aircraft that flew me from Amsterdam to Orlando last January. Not a bad airline at all.
It is a shame that the airline is going to disappear, but, on the bright side, at least Palmair hasn’t suddenly come to an end. For those booked to travel with the company, at least it gives them time to make alternative arrangements or to get refunds for flights/holidays they have yet to take.
Except TCX put you up in a hotel if there is a long enough delay to your flight, they feed you and don’t charge you for everything under the sun. With their tickets, what you see is what you get! They’re more than willing to refund you if it comes to it and don’t charge you a £59 refund administration fee for a £60 ticket (personal experience).
I really do not see how you can tar TCX with the same brush as Ryanair. My experience with TCX puts them miles ahead of Ryanair! Please qualify your remark.
But the company is expecting holidaymakers to head off on holidays to Tunisia, despite the Foreign Office advising against travel there. And for anybody wanting to cancel, 70% of the cost of the trip will be retained by Thomas Cook.
Sounds Ryanair-ish to me.

Calls cost 10p per minute plus network extras
Alternatively, avoid the high call costs and ring a substantially cheaper geographic number – 024 7628 2828. It doesn’t seem fair that affected holidaymakers are forced to pay over the odds in telephone calls to make changes to a booked-and-paid-for trip.

My favourite airline has for many years been Thai Airways. The one big thing that lets the airline down, however, is the lack of personal entertainment on their 747s. On the 11-12 hour flights between London and Bangkok, individual TV screens are pretty important. On a plus, the friendly staff and award-winning cuisine are particularly good, and it’s a great way to start any holiday in Thailand.
As for a least favourite airline, that’s a tricky one. I suppose it would have to be Emirates. I have flown them a few times now and never been blown away them. In fact, on my recent trip with them a couple of months ago, I made a complaint in writing about a flight from Dubai to Bangkok. Despite my complaint being acknowledged by the airline, I am still waiting for a reply 57 days later. Their initial reply stated that I should expect a response within just 30 days. When my complaint was again brought to their attention only last week, they told me they were a little behind schedule with their complaints.
