We seem to have problems ranking which aircraft is generally superior to one another but what about the engines that power them? Can we be less biased about their engines?

    J79 vs R-11/R13

    F-110 vs AL-31

    RD-33 vs F-404

    F119 vs AL-41

I picked ones that were in the same general catagory. Can we at all on the best qualities of each compared to the other? If you could, would you swap one for the other in their respective aircraft?

    Any others?

intently forgot RR and snecma engines? (R199, M53 etc.)

Yep. We dont have the sea launched MdCN. Our Storm Shadow is air-launched and, consequently, a slightly different missile….I believe it can target ships, but, only if they are tied alongside in port.

Today’s news, 6th defense conference fr/ik. intergovernmental agreement between Fr and Uk set up 4 MBDA specialized centers. 2 in uk (datalinks and “governs” (rudders etc). 2 in France (simulation and calculators). Other competences will still be shared (on national soils). Future anti ship missile agreement on concept was signed in march. Contract should be signed in 2017. Will replace storm shadow, exocet and harpoons. First lauches of light antiship missile expected 1st half of 2017.

In fact it could be a smart move : only italian chain has contracted future atm. BAE chain awaiting for KSA good news, and spanish waiting for EJA orders to replace F-18. German chain will be closed for two years…

BAE officials say that if Finland chooses the Eurofighter assembly line can be send to Finland so they can “manufacture” all the fighters in here. Both French and Swedes have made the same offer before them.

I forgot where I read it, but it went something along the lines that the Mirage 2000, against the F-16 and Mig-29, could not be beaten in its first turn, but it only had that first turn. afterwards the advantage shifted to the other two.

Maybe you refer to article in Hush kit from a former Uk exchange pilot? https://hushkit.net/2016/10/13/mirage-2000-pilot-interview-cutting-it-in-the-electric-cakeslice/

you can argue all you want in the a-400 vs c-2 thread instead of the news one.

How long have they been under refit? The report states that despite year on year improvements in availability, the latest availability figures are just 53.6%. The year before that and the year before that, the availability was even lower. So it does not seem to be related to a sudden drop due to some aircraft going into refit.

    Translated from

    link

Rafale F1 were phased out in 2008 with the arrival of F2 for refit to F3 standard (F1 was a gap filling substandard)

It would be nice if dynamo also worked for national datalinks and FMVs of NATO countries.

?That sounds suspicious. Fratricide in these exercises isn’t so rare that examples would be noted. The F-22 can recieve Link 16 so should have been aware of friendlies. Did source specify who the friendlies were? Sounds like an IFF, target recognition failure on the part of the shooter.

Talon Hate is being fielded as we speak to solve the IFDL/ MIDS/Link-16 compatability. Are you refering to DARPA’s DyNAMO?

Yes i was talking about it. Should be in my view a NATO effort btw. And no the source (high ranked DGA engineer) didn’t specify more. The context was dificulties to work in coalition with US “5th gen” planes as thay don’t or so emit on link 16 iguess (do they when questioned by an IFF?). Seems possible to me that the F-XX wasn’t spotted and appeared suddenly on screen while closing to friendly formation.

That is not a new antenna. It has been on there literally since first Su-35 (aka 901 prototype).

    You mean since first Su-35 S ?

Some rumours about LM campaign of India state that Indians would wish F-2 features (particularly wings) if LM project was to be done. Any idea/element?
