Here is some F-35 EW info thanks to Garrya.
Besides what we already know, it got me thinking and searching…
Turns out that the F-35 has the ALE-70 Towed decoy and that it’s operational as of Block2B.

Here is everything that I could dig out of the current FY2017 budget docs.

MJU-68/69 = Flares http://www.chemring.co.uk/~/media/Files/C/Chemring-V2/PDFs/introduction-to-chemring-for-investors-oct2014.pdf
CCU-168 = Impulse cartridge for the flares https://govtribe.com/project/13-pn-8385852-2-ccu-168b-impulse-cartridge/activity
MJU-61/64 = also flares (4 differenc kinds?)Absence of chaff info is odd….
This tidbit from the FY2017 budget (looks like the ALE-70 is in Block 2B/3i already:
Conversely to general opinion, chaffs are very sensitive infos. 4 types of chaffs (coupled with varable pulse cartridge) would not surprise me, some other planes do have different types of chaffs depending on potential/incoming threats.
Yup, and despite the U.S. arguing that Storm Shadow was a Cat I weapon, the Saudis and Qatar are still getting it.
In essence, you can bend the treaty by technicalities and still sell it abroad. No so with the Tomahawk, range is well documented.
As usual, for US, treaties must be applied by other countries. JASSM being an example.
Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry May Change Criteria for Jet Fighter Acquisition
Not so good for Gripen’s chances of landing the order.
From a Bulgarian pilot, not really happy and grumbling after corruption of politicians…
Raytheon fabricates it’s own GaN modules. They’ve been offered, like Saab’s, since 2015. The DoD has just started green lighting G/ator, AN/APY-6, LTAMDS, and the like. The technology reached MLR 8 certification at the same time as Saab was releasing Giraffe GaN.
If there is a difference, it is that Raytheon can offer GaN radars across a wide spectrum built from their own foundry.
I understand that. Btw, groundmaster are also GaN.
+1
Well said Swerve!
Maurobaggio please don’t come back with that old nonsense about “I am just an old man and in my humble opinion”….it doesn’t not matter if you are eight years old or eighty years old if you come out with the same old nonsense!
What has your age got to do with anything and why do you mention it anytime some challenges you? Perhaps you think they will go easier on you if you keep saying you are old and are packing groceries in the supermarket in your retirement (nothing wrong with that….I hope one day to also to do something similar and useful when I am much older and retired;-).
Perhaps you think by keep mentioning you are old this means you can get away with talking nonsense ….but at the same time you slyly talking about dodgy deals……if you have any evidence why don’t you take it to the National Congress or to journalist friends like Hammer (Brazilian journalist who used to post here regularly)?
With all due respect some posters here are old, some young and other in-between….age makes no difference….we are only interested in what you have to say and your age is irrelevant because we are all here to exchange information and to learn more…..nothing more!
Also, please stop saying “in my humble opinion”….firstly because just because you say you are humble does not mean you are! You ignore and do not have a dialogue or conversation with anyone that challenges or disagrees with your statements!
Secondly, your opinion is a good as anyone else’s (even if someone else might disagree with your opinion) and your opinion is good enough by itself without any extra qualification as either “humble” (you are not really humble because you are very angry for some reason with SAAB and keep talking about dodgy deals :D) and it does not matter if your opinion is said by either a old or young man…..only the facts matter!
Maurobaggio is from a Latin culture country. Do not expect us (latins) talking the same way as you are. Different meanings behind similar words.
Rot.
Northrop Grumman – G/ATOR
Lockheed Martin – TPS-77
Raytheon – TPY-2 (THAAD), AMDR (Aegis)And those are just the prominent ones. I’m sure one could find more examples.
G/ATOR : just contracted
TPY-2 idem
TPS-77 announcement made 2 years ago, no idea if in production/operational
It’s in F4 for Rafale 2023/24 (radar and Spectra) according to Henri-Pierre Grolleau in Combat Aircraft.
As far as I can see, F3R is as follows:
Purely by memory, GaN RBE2 was envisaged but not implemented on F3-R on cost issues. But spectra antennas will, as a result of PEA INCAS.
Gripen E EW system but like I said, Gripen E IOC is 5 years off, with all the usual advisory notes on expected date vs actual date.
Ah ok. My bad. I thought he was speaking of GaN modules based radar. So finally F3R would be the first operational plane fitted with GaN modules for spectra antennas?
And in a terrible location for forward visibility. A shoulder location should be better for view and less likely to dump fuel over the windshield. Either way, retractable would have been nicer drag-wise.
Yep, but less reliable and much lower flow rate. About forward visibility, you cars windshield support prevent your visibility?
@StarfishPrime, spot on and off target at same time,
one of Gripens strengths is the easy of integration of new capabilities, so first Meteor user, HMD, almost first beamed datalinks (E), first GaN, its no coincidence, its a pattern that we can expect to contiue..
Where is GaN???
2 french militaries from my former unit were badly injured (near Erbil), one very seriously by such an item few days ago.
Aren’t there a little bit too many threads about Rafale in India and its cohabitation with other types atm? (no offense needed). I love Rafale, but i think some may get nausea hearing about it permanently…
What you write is highly controversial without much to fill it. Although I am sure Polish politics does not shine on every corner like plenty of Eu democracy, in that case, anyone paying a bit of attention to that deal should have noted that recentely the Polish mod reminded all that he did specify targeted financial objectives for the production line in Poland. Airbus choose to manufacture the old Puma there.
In light of the recent setback following the Norway crash, the MGB failure etc… it is obvious that Airbus could have difficulty arguing that it will fullfill the best RoI with a Puma derivative when all predict a shrinking market for that model that has already multiple production lines.Instead of fingerpointing somewhere in the fog of local politics, the above is more a rational explanation*, isn’t it?
Oh stop that. Puma do not have same engines and gearboxes. Do we stand shouting each time a S-61 or a Lynx crashes?
And it is a very rational explanation. Sikorsky unit is in an PIS held district, and offsets offered by Airbus was very generous.
And it was the only offer that complied every clause of Polish demands.
And please do not give EU countries democracy lessons. Eg Our president cannot be elected with less votes than its opponent (see Bush…)
Full letter here,
Crusty points…
Polish MinDef is president of the association of the american foundation “Friends of Poland”. According to Gazeta Wyborcza (http://wyborcza.pl/1,75398,20786556,macierewicz-pomylkowy-prezes-niezwykle-tlumaczenia-amerykanskich.html?disableRedirects=true). Their site is now down (what a surprise…). Opposition at parliament is asking for a formal inquiry commission.
Politics are pushing Airbus to sue Polish governement DGA sent a letter to polish mindef. Polish delegation isn’t anymore an official delegation at Euronaval 2016… (kiddish imho)
Show me a MICA 5+km OTS shot at sea level.
Sea level shot? Show me ONE 5Km+ OTS shot from ASRAAM 😉 . The only thing mentioned is that the target was low alt. G’bye
