With the details so secret about bae taranis it been difficult to find more info about the supersonic part. Could it be super cruise or went just above Mach 1 in a dive? I would of thought if it’s in Guinness book they normally check the facts are correct but would they have witnessed it or measured it or perhaps seen the flight data showing the speed. It’s fantastic if true

in Guinness book? Really? AFAIK only in a Daily Telegraph report… Highly dubious thx to aerodynamic formula.

It is the lack of intelligence from US part of what will work and what will not work and low technical standards of Ukranains wasting time on obsolete things. it means they have no idea what is advanced.

For once i have to agree with you.

So.. my post about the F 35 specifically got drowned out by Mirage fuel tank talk ?

Prob was talked about few messages above, and apparently by Tomcat a long time ago.
Absolutely no pun intended, why not use the “energy return” Rafale absorber. Good occasion to link a ultraa slow motion picture of CDG (and Rafale Take off/landing). not sure it would fit anw.

This is the actual reaction, in GIF form , that Putin had to the statement that you just made. Probably the most famous of the Putin Gifs
    http://gifsec.com/wp-content/uploads/GIF/2014/04/Vladimir-Putin-laugh-gif.gif

It is not up to you, the US or Poland or Europe to decide if Russia should view these installations as a threat. The fact is that they DO. So when you put up the installation, you are knowingly making a provocation.

I have to disagree with the Poland part. It is THEIR problem wether to install or not ABM weapons on their territory (SRBMs would be everyone problem as offensive weapons).

What’s France by this standard, a stunted hobbit power ๐Ÿ˜€ ?

Small power as compared to USA or China. But Russia is a gnome then.

La gabegie, รงa n’a pas de prix!*

While defending a raise of the defense budget toward 2%, the Fr. President assisted proudly at an anti-UAV demonstration using birds of prey to intercept drones…

    *Gabegie is priceless!

You know what? It works fine! (despite future former president still looking ridiculous)

The range numbers for the Gripen NG seem pretty comparable with the ones for the good old Mirage 2000, 800 NM with two externals and four 250 kg bombs, and that M53P has a lousy SFC…

    https://fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/ac/row/mirage-2000.htm

Can’t compare them. (not optimized for the same task). Btw, what is F-414 GE 400 SFC?

    I couldn’t agree more ! Exellent post.

F35 revolution is about stealth & sensor & communication being widespread to your basic frontline jetfighter…In great numbers. An F35 might not be very maneuvrable and somewhat unimpressive against former gen aircrafts, but clearly that will not count very much. I think SU35, T50s, J20s etc don’t stand an chance against an integrated allied NATO fleet of F35. It will not be a one vs one dogfight in real life.

When the F35 will come in numbers, all the “wow” maneuvring & powerfull stuff of the Sukhoi for instance will be completely irrelevant. It will be a new paradigm.

Wide spread in great numbers mean L16 (or successor). MADL is afik limited to 4 essets. And we have absolutely no clue about chinese or russians datalinks, networking etc. I wouldn’t dismiss them.

Weight do have significant impact on range because the lift required the counter the weight gain has to come either from higher speed or higher AoA. Both mean more drag. More drag mean more fuel consumption

Which is also true to F-35 (i’m thinking about some ppl considering F-35 max perfs not to be influenced by load as it is internal).

Probably this thread, or the last one. This was an issue that was spotted by a few folks and later confirmed by the program as something they are looking to address.

I mean magnetic dampers ok… (magic solution?) but when?

Not a scoop. We (I) have been discussing the issue before. Magneto-resistive damper should do the trick (just like in heavy duty clutch).

    When?

F-35C seems to have issues while catapulting.
