Trim tower done
finished the final assembly…and it all works
In the materials specs for the legend plates two types of material are called for, anodised aluminium [which i use]the base colour of which is specified,as is the lettering colour and a laminated material….. however that was an early phenolic based plastic and i have so far been unable to find any stockists carrying it …..most “multi” layer materials are too thick or wrong type of plastic
With regard to the pilots panel when made from aluminium [along with other “sub” panels] a “black crystalline finish” is specified ……this is the wrinkle paint finish so loved by early MG owners…….
It was not applied to the “phenolic” panels, the nearest equivalent we have to the phenolic s today are the “TUFNOL ” materials. These however have a laminated base structure, either made of paper [cellulose] or cloth. The trade names for various types ,use fish species to differentiate the various types [carp ,perch etc etc]
ohhhhhhh just read my posting through seems that you cannot use the word cocks here…c o c k [s]
Smirky ….I think you will find that all marks used the red back ground for these plates, I am basing that statement on the AVRO drawing .
As for making the pilots panel plates in red ,nice thought but how about a lighter pink shade to go with your blood shot eyes????…custom colours are available at a premium
Thanks smirky….hope that the red control labels will be done by end of week…..then the panel is finished
shrinkage allowance off the original casting when used as a pattern can vary depending on the thickness etc of the structure [anything from 3-6%]…..but if you have the skill and foundry practice and are using “old” ways of producing the mold boxes then that can be fiddled ….allowing very close dimensional reproduction of the new casting
Village inn projection head and Z apparatus sighting head
Picture of VILLAGE INNcollemating head [crt projector ] and the sighting head for infra red Z equipment as used on Lancasters etc.Picture is from my radar/jamming/radio collection
GEE and detonators
somewhere in collection i have a gee unit with a painted label on it warning to remove detonators before servicing …i ll dig it out and photo it
Thank you all for your various imputs, So can we say definitely a gun from Al Deere’s ,Kiwi 11 recovered by Ken Ward and the North East Aircraft Recovery Museum from a wreck site at Kirklevington.
[any idears of the dig/recovery date] sorry to be pedantic but i guess that time spent reading Egyptology has rubbed off]
Is there a record of the dig? any chance of piccies??
geoff
TANGMERE 1940 thanks for your reply to my question I have tried to pm you but your box appears tyo be full
Peter yes to that as well along with the spacers and the liner for the cut out ,but its not fitted in the pictures …makes the seat a bit too heavy and unstable , but when fitted in FM104 it will be in place, only part of armour not done yet is the part for the lower seat pan drawings are a bit faded for exact dimensions
Peter whole seat assembly is copied including the head armour, with all its horrible stepped washers, all mounting brackets and boy some of them made my head hurt just thinking how to hold them in milling machine
IT FITS
Couple of pics taken at Downsview last weekend of the first of the new build pilots seat being fitted to the FM 104 original seat adjustment frame…..just needs a couple of hundred rivets put in and a couple of coats of paint
Thanks for the kind words Peter and Tony,i will post pics of the frame as soon as its done.Tony you still building a hurricane around the firewall i made for you? That was another interesting project, mind you not as bad as putting the square ends on the tubes you wanted.I see that Graham Adlam has the hurricane center section, something that has been nagging at the back of my mind about that job, what was the identity of the genuine section i had in the workshop?
Hi Elliot i see that your project is moving well,to answer your question….yes i finally got hold of a genuine control wheel .
Using that and original drawing we have managed to produce the relicas you saw in the pictures.I will post a piccie of the finished prototype, these are being made exclusively for the purposes of fund raising for restoration of FM104 in Toronto, and I will add their linc to the pics
