The work is obviously very good. That is not in question. That is why I look on the website, to see how the restoration is going.

If you’re humourless and void of personality because you believe in not keeping quiet when you come across blatantly sexist comments (whether genuinly held or trolling) then that’s fine, frame me in that light. I have no issues with views that are different, but putting them across in a public way does mean people will respond and have a view on them. Particularly if expressed on a website documenting a high profile restoration.

There are two other posters who have similar views to mine. I may not be in a majority here but if others see the issue too then it’s worth the bluebird team taking a look at how they communicate the project. I doubt they would communicate that way in a television interview.

And unfortunately for Bluebird Mike, he’s been associated with those views by virtue of sharing the post when I suspect he probably wanted to share the work first and foremost. It is worth everyone noting his comments that he did not write the diary.

Sense of humour? It’s not a demonstration of high grade humour or intelligence is it?

A rant about how he can’t get his freebie naked girls calendar? And the assertion that the new boss of the company must have put a stop to it because she’s not ‘calendar’ material. Not because she has a moral, ethical, business based or other reasoned objection but purely because she is bitter she couldn’t be on the calendar. He will not allow for that and her objection is invalid because of it.

‘Feminist Crap’? Perhaps if he looked up the meaning of the word he would find it difficult to add the crap part but the truth is he probably has a basic understanding of what feminism means or the many forms it can take. Probably a very narrow view based on the bloke down the pub model of what feminism is. But why bother engaging with any of it when you can take the default position of a poor quality Jeremy Clarkson impersonator and purposely set out to troll and wind people up. That’s the pathetic bit, the intention of it. I suspect, the writer enjoys the infamy of his position quite a bit. And that, again, the focus is drifting, like it or not, to him and away from Campbell and the boat.

So what’s the website and restoration about? Bluebird and Campbell or the writer? Who is most important.

If you are offended then either don’t read the article or do what I did, start at the pictures. Plenty of interesting content and the type of engineering ‘banter’ I expect from people who have a passion for doing this type of thing……

I hope they don’t get a ‘Head of PR’ in.

I’m not actually offended, it just colours the view of the organisation. The actual comments are so lazy, stereotypical and tiresome that it’s beyond parody. It’s not a case of an easily offended millennial. It’s a case of shock at such an diary and its odd focus when the focus should be on Campbell, the Bluebird and the restoration. Instead the focus is very much on one person and their opinions.

Maybe a personal diary and a restoration diary. Seperate and distinct.

I’m personally interested in this restoration but would not donate because of this.

I’m not suggesting a head of PR but if you’re raising money it does help to think about how you interact with the public.

Bizarre, you want to read about the boat. But actually all you have to do is get through paragraphs of anger, rants, attempts at controversy and stories that might appeal to some but not to others. So, not knowing where the bluebird bits started, I just stopped reading 🙂

Now I just associate the project with a ranting middle aged man who is angry that the world has changed around him.

    There you go,

My thoughts and not a direct criticism of any of his (I’ll keep them to myself ) – just the way he chooses to use the official restoration site to air them. If the rest of team agree with it then so be it but if not I’d say questions should be asked about who is in control of the teams PR!

she was rolling around in agony with her skirt up while the attending medic tried his best to remove one from the other and reduce the damage, needless to say we all stood around and watched.

You stood around to watch her in agony or to watch her humiliation as she was partially exposed to you all?

Are you working on your own or is there a group – if it’s just you it’s an incredible job for one person.

    hi,
that second photo for me is the quintessential view of a RAF officer/pilot, and Kenneth More was made for his part. The photo shows him in a Gp Capt. uniform, according to wiki he was made up to temp. Wg.Cdr. on July 1st, after the flypast in June….or am I mistaken?

    regards,
    jack…

Let’s hope then that Bader himself wasn’t the ideal and quintessential RAF officer then as it would be interesting to know how much of the ‘personality’ section on his Wikipedia entry is true and see where the comments are sourced but it doesnt say very much for him.

You might also speculate on the purpose of this bizarre chained-off area of grass next to it.

“And what is wrong with a bull and logo”

There’s nothing wrong with the logo, it’s a nice logo, but I think, stars and bars would be a more appropriate memorial to the pilots who flew and fought in such aircraft than a logo off of an energy drink amongst other things.
On the B25 they own they completely omit any national insignia.

It might be a more appropriate memorial but it isn’t being operated as a memorial but as a promotional tool or, judging on the eclectic nature of the collection, as a celebration of machinery/technology.

Regards the lack of insignia on the B25. Not sure if you mean it is a bad thing or good thing. Irrelevant I would say as it isn’t a memorial flight so if some have insignia and some don’t it might be an aesthetic whim? Who knows.

Remember, the sea vixen needed red bull support for many years and then ended up in a more authentic scheme for years to come after that. I don’t think it’s such a big deal. And with the sea vixen it was the only one flying whereas these aircraft are in a slightly more plentiful supply in terms of airworthy examples.

And what is wrong with a bull and logo. They’re paying for it. It can be taken off later. It’s not like it’s been put in an authentic scheme and then had the logo dumped on top. It’s a pseudo scheme. Plus it looks rather good.

Is there enough “business” for a second B-17 in Europe?

If so, wouldn’t it be easier/cheaper to dis inter Pink Lady?
My only concern would be if Red Bull wanted to fly one in a tacky/inappropriate or overly commercial paint scheme.

I would have thought that a hypothetical red bull scheme, if similar to the colours of their P38, would be no more ‘tacky’ than Sally B’s non authentic composite scheme with a poorly drawn nude on the nose. A lot of world war 2 nose art is by its very nature ‘tacky’. Look at Just Jane for example. Period it may be but tasteful?
