Two Spitfires over Harlow heading south at about 1820 hrs this Friday evening..
Nice car, I take it tyre tread was an optional extra  :eagerness:
I guess that was what the sprig of lucky heather was for that seems to be tucked into the inner wing 🙂
Yes Denis – the same one. That was a good day!
Were you involved in this recovery Elliot? if so well done 🙂
I remember trekking across those marshes with Elliot looking for a Hurricane a few years ago, the same one??
I remember visiting the Gymnasium and chancel that doubled as a cinema on the former RAF Hunsdon airfield before it was demolished some thirty years ago. All the windows along the top of the building had wooden poles with the remains of what looked like thin black linen curtains attached by rings to the poles. Seen very similar remains in the same type of building at Parham years ago. I wouldnt think there would have been that much difference to those in the control towers.
just for consideration It will need lifting Elliot, Unless it has fork pockets, and very few 40′ Shipping containers do, it will have to be lifted by crane. A standard 40′ weighs between 3750kg and 3900 kg empty.
I too conversed, only via email with Tim. He invited me down on two occasions so he could sign my Hurricane print that contains many other Hurricane pilots signatures. I’m afraid to say my tight working life kept me away. Sad to hear of his passing.
Having last eaten at the Squadron cafe a couple of years ago, I much prefer the Wings Cafe for food. The Nissen Hut is/was great as a bar though, novel and plenty to keep the punters interested, hope someone makes a go of it.
I think the spelling of cookie is just simply a spelling mistake. 433 were a Canadian squadron who operated Halifaxes and finshed the war on Lancasters. While H’bag might well be his version of shorthand for ‘Hallybags’, the nickname for Halifax bombers, might the H’bago actually be H’bags ??
just my take on it and not a reliable source 🙂
OK thanks!
So what is the story behind P2921 being at Hangar 11?
I have had one or two flights but always freebies, but that was long ago, now as Firebird said, the Hurricane would be the only one I would do…if I could ever afford/justify the fee. Just love Hurricanes!
Spitfire South of North Weald earlier, and then Sally B right over the top of my house later this afternoon, woke me up it was so loud!
Such a shame no one managed photographs, very glad to hear one of her dreams came true for her!
A brilliant suggestion, the land for housing at Hendon would probably exceed what Scampton would cost to buy
