Hi
Regarding Victor K2 XM715 overrunning runway 31 on the 5th August 1975. I remember being told that the station C/O was holding a briefing and quipped that they had every thing they needed for Air Day except a towbar for a Victor. When he was then informed that a Victor had overrun the runway. If there is any truth in this story I do not know but I believe the Hastings T5 TG503 was used to fly in the required towbar.
I was outside the base on the 8th October 1975 at the approach end to 13 when Canberra WJ680 carried out her wheels up landing
which finished flying for some time. The Viscount in the picture is indeed British Midland (G-AZLS). Also noted on the airfield, French Navy N262A, 2 x Varsity T1, Andover C1, 2 x P-3A (USN), 3 x P-3B (USN), The P-3’s being deployed on East Dispersal (Carnanton). Flying through the overhead and diverting was another USN P-3A and a French AF C-135F which RTB after being unable to carry out any approaches. With the P-3’s being on East Dispersal the Nimrod crews seemed to carry out some very impressive take off’s.

Some images recently uploaded to Worldairpics taken at St Mawgan IAD 1987 in perfect weather.

I believe on this occasion (1975) the Nav stayed with the aircraft.

Hi Wingcomandrflap
I believe that Brymon flew a service from London City to Paris for Air France hence the colours. I think you may be out on your dates though ‘YC’ only operated in Air France livery from the second half of 90 and the first half of 91 (?).
Your 2nd image is I believe of C-GGXS leased from City Express for 3 months at the end of 87 beginning of 88.
Pagen01 thanks for the welcome. Only recently discovered this thread but will certainly keep coming back.
Steve
Thank you for your replies.
Gipsy 1 (A) Can you confirm that the aircraft you are the passenger in is the same aircraft destroyed in 2002.
(B) Is it possible the remains returned to the UK sometime after the accident with the intentions to rebuild.
(C) I am convinced the c/n plate on the second airframe is from the earlier airframe.
I think we should probably regard the 18 years in store may not be that accurate. Also it may be that the 2nd airframe never flew ( Possible issues with the CAA )?
I managed to check the c/n plate today ( AVI001 ). Perhaps then this is the same airframe, shipped back to the UK after it’s accident in 2002 for restoration ???

Algerian Navy Lynx ZK183
All four Algerian Navy Lynx are at Newquay for crew training at present and two are flying on most days.
I have attached a link for my latest image this time it being ZK183. This differs from ZK182 in that it does not have a winch fitted, Carries Arabic titles on the right-hand side with the Algerian Roundel but is minus the Algerian Navy serial (AN09).

For comparison have also attached the previous image of ZK182.

Actually food is a very important part of the memory of the Nimrod, the bomb bay often being joked as being the ‘crumb tray’.
One of the flights I went on, I eat a cheese pasty before take off, and was eating up a lamb casserole on descent to land – and I was forced to do it you understand!
For many years I was a member of the Royal Observer Corp and one of our perks being the occasional flight from Culdrose on a Jetstream or St Mawgan on a Nimrod.
On one particular Nimrod flight that I remember vividly we departed SM mid afternoon on a sortie that involved simulated attacks on an imaginary submarine somewhere in the Western Approaches. This also involved some evasive manoeuvres from imaginary missiles fired from the imaginary submarine.
We had been treated to a meal during the transit to the exercise area of curried chicken. I unlike my 2 fellow passengers managed to hold on to my meal during the exercise (very low over rough seas in a severe gale).
My reward on the return leg was a fresh jam and cream sponge which my fellow passengers declined to share and I eagerly demolished.
The crunch came that on our return we became subjected to 3 approaches and overshoots at night in which I believe the pilot took great pleasure in throwing the Nimrod around like a fighter.
We finally landed on 13 and left the runway at the 31 threshold. Between there and Treloy my chicken curry, fresh cream sponge (In paper bag), and I parted company much to the amusement of my fellow passengers.
I will miss the Nimrod (but certainly not flying on her).
For me the star of IAD 84 had to be the F-8E(FN) Crusader No16 of 12F/Aeronavale from Landivisiau

You had to love that 300′ wide runway (memorable multi jet departures)
I know it’s a long shot, but did anybody ever get a photo of the display (or rehearsal) that St.Mawgan did for some years for their air show, with four Canberras leading a Nimrod? It was such a great sight as they swept-in from the coast, I’d dearly love to see a photo!
I’m afraid I do not remember ever seeing 4 Canberra’s in formation with a Nimrod and I attended every Air Show at St Mawgan from 1966. That’s not to say it never happened I just cannot remember such an event. But I did find this lurking in the slide box from 1971.
