DH82EH, Duxford’s Flying Legends? I couldn’t say, the dates haven’t been released for it yet! 😉
Khalem
Hi all,
The first update is going to happen on Monday and will address some comments you’ve all made. It will not address them all but they will be in future updates. The number of post views has been noted Lyffe and it will be added in the near future.
The aim of moving the forum was to link our content and forum together. People keep mentioning Key’s intent to monetise the forum for our benefit. This is not exactly the case. The forum will remain free, yes Key Aero asks if you want to subscribe but that is for access to our online magazine content (i.e. magazine features from FlyPast, Combat Air, AirForce’s Monthly etc). The idea of having mag content and the forum together is to boost forum conversation topics and for forum talk to maybe influence content in the future (not by themes or by type of content we write) but in hearing about things that are not necessarily in the mainstream aviation news at the time. But think of it all what you will.
I get you are all disappointed with the forum. I have passed on many comments on how we can improve it or what you (the forum users) want us to do and believe me they have all been explored and they will be implemented in the coming weeks, starting Monday.
Unfortunately, I can’t address everyone’s comment personally but thank you for your patience.
I hope you’re all having a good weekend.
Kind regards,
Khalem
Hi Shevchuk and Prop Strike,
Just to address your comments. We are addressing the situation as per your comments and we are updating it with forum user feedback, which agreeably has been negative. The first update will come on Monday and it will include a forum-only search, which is something you mentioned Shevchuk. We are talking to developers and they are bringing updates through, which unfortunately can’t happen over night but will happen across the next few weeks.
Kind regards,
Khalem
Hi all,
Just to address some overnight comments.
Alanl – Duxford Diary and a few other threads have not migrated over successfully and developers will be rectifying that.
MFowler – As per this weekends update, found here: https://www.key.aero/forum/forum-updates-issues/new-forum-update – we will be “adding a forum search. Isolated from the rest of Key Aero, enabling users to find threads without having to be bombarded with other content.” Also, the forum is and will always be free, we merged it with our new content site, not for monetary reasons but for ease, so the forum can be attached with Key aviation magazine title content and create more of a hub. Some features are for magazine subscribers only but as a print-based journalism company, we can’t put all of our magazine content up for free. Yes, a lot of work needs to be done to get it back to a stage where forum users are happy. A long road ahead, but we are listening and developers know all of your gripes.
Jeepman – I will pass on those forum’s you linked for our development team to have a look at and get inspiration from.
Hope this answers your questions,
Kind regards,
Khalem
Hi all,
Just going to address some comments quickly.
Planemike – Sadly I do not feel you really understand the level of dissatisfaction with the new revised forum layout. By your own admission you are a “new boy” at KEY” – Yes I am but that doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate the amount of time you have all put into the forum and I especially understand the dissatisfaction you all have, which is why I am passing criticisms over to the development team constantly and recommending they change things in line with your comments. Also, just to clarify, I agree that the forum needs a lot of work. I have never alluded to a “few minor tweaks” will fix it. A lot needs to be done, but its being rolled out in tranches and some things take longer than others, but its best to make some changes now rather than wait until we can change everything at once so we are at least doing something.
Some of which will happen this weekend. I appreciate its not a “massive” update but its a start and the development team is working on other parts which will be rolled out in the near future.
The spam threads have been noted. I don’t have time to actively scroll through each forum channel but now it has brought to my attention, I will keep an eye out and delete any that pop up. Thanks to those who notified me today. I myself am surprised that there seems to be a lack of protection in that department and will be pushing for that to change ASAP. It is not needed on this forum.
I understand people are unhappy with the layout, trust me. That makes up half of the comments made so far on the critical side of the forum. It is on the top of the list of things to sort. This weekend the layout will stretch to fill more of the page. Abandoning the sticky “first comment” post which seems to stick on each page throughout the thread (no clue why its there myself anyway). Also the profile of the member who started the thread will go, freeing up webpage real estate on the page. Other changes will come but they take a bit longer to fix, but they are coming.
Yes, the current forum is user UNfriendly and we are looking to amend that. I myself have enquired about Duxford Diary and apparently it did not migrate across properly, so expect it to be back soon!
I will and have noted the profile box to the left of comments. My name for example annoys me but it is something developers are addressing.
I hope this helps a bit, I know a lot needs to be done and at risk of repeating myself, we are actively looking to sort it.
Hope you all have a good evening,
Kind regards,
Khalem
Hi all,
Just thought I’d pop in and say that Duxford Diary didn’t migrate across properly. Developers know and will aim to fix it.
Regards,
Khalem
Merlin3945,
Though most of the forum’s history is before my time. I, on the part of Key, value moderators on this forum and they have done an exceptional job over the last however many years.
After this weekend’s update I will be looking to speak with and work with moderators across the forum more. I would have done it sooner but I have recently been swamped with work.
Thanks for all you have done and your comments are being heard.
Kind regards,
Khalem
Evening all,
Just to recap, all of your comments are being “emphasised enough,” trust me. We are looking into everything that has been brought up. Certain things will change quicker than others, but our developers are working on it.
As per this weekends update, as I linked in a previous comment on this thread, the layout will change, a wysiwyg editor will be added which will bring back emojis and other comment editing features and a forum-only search will be added.
To my knowledge (and I am new at Key), forum users were not consulted prior to this change which is something we could have done differently.
Ianwoodward9/ Prop Strike – I’ve read your comments and noted some of the points you have raised and will pass them on to the development team.
I understand the negativity and I am in communication with the development team to improve it as per your comments.
Kind regards,
Khalem
Afternoon all,
I’ve noted these points and have passed them on to the developers.
Sorry I can’t be back with more at the minute, I’m pretty busy today.
Kind regards,
Khalem
Morning all,
It’s just the first update, Janarne, more will come and some things take longer to change than others.
Gin Ye Daur – could you email us forum@keypublishing.com and we’ll take a look at your problem, the same for anyone else who has lost access to their old accounts. I understand the time you’ve all put in to them an I aim to get them back to you.
Kind regards,
Khalem
Hi all,
PM has been noted and I’ll update the forum on what is happening with it when I know.
Khalem
Hi all,
I’ve noted the missing Duxford Diary thread as something for our developers to look into.
I’ll update when I have more information.
Regards,
Khalem
Afternoon all,
I don’t think I’ve been on this thread yet, there’s a lot to keep up on at the minute. I’m Khalem and I’m trying to be the communicative representative from Key. A bridge between developers and users. I myself am I journalist on AFM/ Combat Air/ Air International and a contributor on Key Aero. I’m NOT a forum developer. But here to help. I’ve heard your criticisms and have passed them onto the development team. We are listening!
Anyway, the forum update is here, check it out below (I made a thread for it so its easier to keep track)

Thanks for bearing with us.
