The Anson main panel.

Just need a few instruments to complete (Bruce I’ll be sending my ‘Dear Santa’ request for the in a few days).

After Cees is satisfied with a Rotax de-icer I need one as well.

Now remaining question is what mark is it?

Suggestions at the moment are T.21 or C.18 (Indian version). Some of the Mods are dog rough and would never pass scrutiny from a Chief Tech so the C.18a has attractions.

Very common where i live, chucked a couple away the other day as i was fed up tripping over them…. :diablo:

By the way, the only thing I still need is a Rotax de-icing pump as used in many RAF aircraft such as the Spitfire, Hornet etc. If anyone has one kicking about, I can provide a good home for it;)

Some more Halifax progress,

Just about finished riveting the engine control duct that runs next to the pilot’s chassis. On this item a lot of parts are fitted such as the hydraulic system console, the elevator trimming wheel, a slot into which the collapsible flight engineers seat can move, the finished rudder pedals and last but not least the throttle box trunk + throttle box itself. Nice to see things coming together. Also some pics of the flight engineer panels and finally a hmmm err thingy…….

That eBay Gnat – an update

For those who may be interested, just a few new pic’s showing the center console & equipment given a quick makeover and attached to it’s floor panel.

Plus the heavily corroded [but it’s all i have to work with..!] lower control column casting blasted, treated and installed. And finally a trial installation of the rebuilt center & starboard consoles…..

My interest in cockpits is growing since first seeing this thread, if a project was to be started is it best to start and construct the thing ground up or get something to renovate? but then where would you get your hands on something – wouldnt be cheap!

Keep an eye on eBay. This seems to be the most prevalent method of late with a Hunter, couple of Chipmunks, various gliders & light aircraft, and even a glass fibre Spitfire fuselage in the last 12months.

Or if your budget & space is larger you could try GJD Services who have a Canberra PR.9 going cheap….

Just hoping that whilst I am kitting out my Brit instrument panel I dont encounter parts made of this unobtainium stuff :p Am still even holding out a faint hope of locating a co pilots panel!

Then when I finally acquire a cockpit (garage has just been cleared and looking invitingly empty :diablo: ) goodness knows how hard that will prove to source parts! 😮

Thanks. Although it’s like this…. as Gnat parts are made of ‘unobtainium’, do you crack on with what you have ? Or wait for them to turn up, if ever ?

I’ve decided to choose the former having hit a multitude of stumbling blocks in obtaining parts from US & UK operators. Plenty of bits stateside but due to US export restrictions versus the war on terror, etc, etc, etc…….

So i’m gonna put in the stuff i have so far, side consoles & walls, main panel, center console & equipment, coaming, throttle box, seat, but i doubt i’ll ever find a lower control column as it’s a very strange looking contraption.

Fantastic work from everyone! Fantastic stuff….

I worked as an AME in a previous life and i actually enjoyed whenever i was given any sheet repairs or had to manufacture panles/ brackets etc….
You have given me inspiration for future projects i think! If only i win the lottery in the meantime!

On a similar note, I can recall reading an American Flying magazine in the mid 1990s. A company there offered cockpit sections (from the front firewall back) fully rebuilt or basically any aircraft which was available from those Avizona bone yards.
they came with working panel lights and cockpits seats and if memory serves me correctly… a removable writing table, as these were to be “home office” furniture.

Look forward to seeing more on here…..
