Aircraft Cockpit Sections/Instrument Panel Projects

Identical apart from the co… the lever because in the instrument panel in the Beau is less room for a large handle. Mine came from Stirling N3654.

Yes, deffo looks like Beaufighter which probably explains the made in Australia bit.

Mine came from Australia as well, with these things you have to be prepared to pay some hefty prices.
Just tell the wife it’s only an investment.;)

Thanks for those kind words Peter. Yes, the 3rd rpm gauge is 1953 but still a 5000 rpm piston gauge not a jet one. The 4th rpm gauge is just a fake hole-filler because a proper one fouled on the box supporting the panel.

Cees, yes I am watching that one on eBay also. As you say, the lever doesn’t look like any I have seen in Lancaster photos. It is also Australian :confused: Anyway I’m sure it will sell for loads of money.

If I were you I would get this for your panel, it’s one of those impossible to find items, the lever needs to be replaced though as it was probably used in a Beaufighter (like the one I have).

Firemans hole

Your T.11 fuselage wood appears to be ok. Better than the average pod, complete with firemans axe-hole in the stbd side!!

I’ve never seen a fireman’s axe-hole (nor do I want to).

Thank you for the complement. I have done very little in the last year. My knees were in very bad shape from my rambunctious youth. I had them replaced in Aug. I am ready to get back to work on the project now that I am walking well again.
I hope to make quick progress and update the web site soon.

At 82% it is still a large cockpit. The Corsair was huge for a fighter (as were the F6F and P-47). At my scale, my Corsair is the same size as a full scale FW-190. Just slightly smaller than a Spit.

Corsair – A lot of people I guess build the likes of Spitfires because there is no other way they can get hold of them . Why are you building a Corsair cockpit – for shows or flight sim etc?

I am building (replicating) the whole aircraft for flight. I built a mock-up in order to fit the various parts to before building the real aircraft. The landing gear is my real pride. Take a look at my web page if it interests you. www.corsair82.com

It’s not a cockpit, its a whole airframe slightly scaled down. Click the website link in the guys signature…. fascinating stuff !!

Welcome to the forum Corsair Pilot.

You will find that there are many such collectors…. instrument panels (there’s a thread just for that here), wreckology, uniforms, ejection seats etc, etc… plus of course cockpits.

Why is harder to explain, but for many varied reasons it is often impractical to save a whole airframe when it is scrapped, but i’m sure you’ll find many threads on here if you type ‘cockpit’ into the search box.

Also you may wish to check out the International Cockpit Club, and the yearly Cockpitfest event also. Some links for you…

I am new to this forum. I am surprised to see this thread. What do you build or restore these cockpits for?
I am building a replica of the F4U Corsair. I built a mock up including the cockpit. I didn’t know anyone else did such a thing.
This shows it whilst the windscreen frame was still under construction. I actually made the canopy and windscreen molds and frames by hand.
