Good guy or bad guy, Hezbollah must be scaled waaaaay back. To stop the conflict at this point, would be a major mistake by Israel. With a cease-fire, Ehrahn will simply send Hezbollah even more sophisticated weapons. The mullahs have already mentioned, that Hezbollah will not be disarmed.

Hezbollah will resupply and regroup, and a year from now, they will simply take another group of either Israeli civilians or soldiers hostage. With that being the case, it is very important, to continue the fight now.

If Israel were to get into a fight with Ehran today, it would make very good sense to immediately take out (at the least, – scale back the program a number of years) many facilities from their nuclear weapons program. If Ehran decides to escalate, Israel should exclusively target all of their oil export and production facilities. It would be in Israel’s best interests to take care of Ehran today.

The terrorists don’t play by the rules so why do you want us to play by the rules.

You’re entitled to your own opinion, but I disagree on this one. A course which would put us in the same category as the terrorists is not the way to go. How can one claim to be morally superior and sustain the right to fight terrorism if one chooses to follow the same path as the terrorists one is trying to defeat? It would be downright asinine.

You cry foul when the US or Israel “torture freedom fighters and kill civilians” but you are ok with the terrorists bombing a bus in Tel Aliv that kills women and children because after all they deserve it because Israel is just a big bully.

No innocent civilians deserve to die in this conflict, whether they be Palestininan, Israeli or Lebanese.

The fact that we don’t see many people in the West taking to the streets to protest against terrorism, war criminals in Africa etc. might be explained by the possibility that the majority feels more responsible for the actions of e.g. the U.S. and Israel than for any actions committed by non-Western groups or countries. Many may also think that any attempt at an appeal will have no effect on terrorists and those who support them (as if it has much effect on Western leaders on every occasion).

Still, I can agree with you in this context, because I don’t see any excuse for not protesting against terrorism.

One thing I learned during my time on this planet…is that in the history manuals won`t tell you the whole truth. How can you tell a 13 year old kid in the history class about how his ancesters did a nasty thing to a city…or raped women…killed children? That`s not a good example..and it won`t put patriotism in his heart. I don`t know that much about your history…but don`t jump with the “anti-americanism” stuff when someone says something bad about your country. There are lots of things wrong with my country and when someone says something bad about it I don`t jump with “anti-romanians”….I try to explain to him if his wrong…and if it`s true…than it`s true I admit it. I`m not ashamed about my history. The important thing is that we learn something from past mistakes.

The whole world needs to get there act together and put a stop to this! Otherwise it could spin way out of control! Funny, 60 years after WWII we still make the same mistake? No one side is free from blame………..we need to stop pointing fingers and collectively solve the worlds problems before “Armagegeddon” solves it for us………………..then everyone will pay the price! American civil war — burning down of entire city of Atlanta and mass rape and killing of civilians. No to mention carnage by sherman in other southern cities just to dispirit the men away from home fighting under the leadership of Lee.

Vietnam and Cambodia —- google and you’ll find tons of stuff.

Latin America–Chile in particular. Look it up.

What makes you think that war is all “lets play nice and fair”. Seems like the royal navys on there way. could be picking up them 3 chinooks that were at NICE today.

The lustys got 2 ASW Merlins on board 2 AEW Sea kings and some RAF harrier GR7s may be there going in as force protection, for the bulwark with her landing craft and the 500 royal marines currantly embarked on board.

They did it during the second Chechen conflict when they realised that during the first conflict the Frogfoot and Fencer were no more effective than a Flogger would have been. I think the re-activation lasted for the most intense period of the conflict…three months I think. I remember watching a CNN reporter reporting on RuAF activity and seeing two MiG-27s lift off with welded plates under the canopy laden with bombs.
It was the same with the tanks, during the second conflict the Russians realised that the T-80 could not offer any significant advantage over the older T-62 when blasting buildings and during the second conflict the T-62 (and reportedly the T-55) became the main tank in the conflict…though T-80s and T-72s were deployed in small number.
Wether or not the re-activation of the Flogger was an official thing or not I don’t know.

According to my copy of International Air Power Review, volume 15 pg. 89, the MiG-27’s retirement was a “great mistake” by General Deinekin with the conflict in Chechnya. The Su-24M/Su-25 combination could not cost-effectively fulfil many of the specific tasks required of a versatile fighter-bomber in a low-intensity conflict like Chechnya. The PGM capability of the MiG-27K/M/D was sorely missed in that campaign. The Flogger required fewer maintenance man-hours per flight hour (somthing to consider when you are a cash strapped air force like Russia in the early 90s), more reliable. If the RuAF had properly put all those low airframe MiG-27s in flyable storage instead of just parking them in the open exposed to the elements they might had been able to use the MiG-27 in Chechnya and still fly them today.

Talking of which weapon is best to drop and from which deployment.

I wonder how many more aircraft are going to retire like the F4 and how many more better and cleverer weapons we are going to develop before we find the actual combination that actually works in liberating hostages. Does it have to blow open the compound, kill all and only the bad guys, saw/melt/vapourise through the bonds, then transform it self into an escape vehicle. If it does then it could be called a Marine perhaps.

I’m quite sure Russia havent done this. In early 90x all single engined aircrafts was banned from RuAF at the orders of Air Chief. Noone in they right mind would bother with Mig-27 when you have a stock of rusting Su-24 and Su-25.

the posts on Isreali Phantoms got me thinking… are there eny Kifirs left in service, or did they go years ago.. eny A-4s left as well.. i suppose F-16s replaced all these…

As far as I know the Kfir is out of operational service with the IDF/AF and for the right price would sell you one! 🙂 The Kfir is still in service with Ecuador, Sri Lanka and cannot remember if Columbia operates Kfirs or not. The TA-4H is still used by the IDF/AF as an advanced trainer not sure if the single seat A-4H is still used as an active combat aircraft but I do not think so.

I’m not directly accusing anyone of anything right now, but I think it’s important to acknowledge the tragic fact that there is a live conflict going on and that innocent people are getting killed and wounded. This isn’t a movie or a video game.

And in the middle of all this, world attention on the far greater issues in Africa, at least in terms of human lives, seems very limited.

I am quite aware that this is not a video game or movie, being a Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran of now two deployments to this region I know this. It is very unfortunate that innocent lives are being taken on BOTH sides of the border of Israel and Lebanon. But you cannot negotiate or talk to terrorist the only way to “talk” to a terrorist is the proper application of high explosives. Godspeed to the Israel Air Force.
