Do you think it is possible for the IN to get the Zhuk A/E on the follow on MIG 29Ks or as a retrofit on them ?

Once again, do you actually know the qualities of the Chinese cockpit, and what Russia wants, to make that statement?

Just that going by the past Russia has a tradition of not fixing things that are working. It will need more durable materials to make a single piece canopy. May be like some others say they did not invest in it to keep costs down.

Well the Indian version cannot have a single piece canopy anyway as it would be a twin seater. On the other hand IAF requirements to FGFA are stricter and I would expect in some aspects a much better aircraft.

He said WE don’t see a requirement, not that India don’t request it, also Germany who is the co-developer, brought that missile as well as Storm Shadow to AERO INDIA last year and displayed it as part of the possible weapon config for EF. Dassault even exported the Scalp with the Mirage 2000 and offered it at least to some countries with Rafale as well (both of course range limited).

Requirement is not there because India did not request it. As i said SCALP and Taurus are expensive weapons, if they are involved the actual price of MRCA will not be just 10-11 billion. If IAF wants it they will negotiate for it seperatley. Also from IAF perspective there is no point in asking for weapons before an aircraft is selected.

So basically you confirm that the Rafale and Mig are the savest solututions for us, while the US fighters could be a problem in regard to Pakistan and the Gripen in any conflict.

Safest among the current options yes, but it will all depend on their respective foriegn policies. We need to spend more money on development of fully indigenous powerplants as well as fighters, only then can we fight a sustained war of artrition.

The number was reported from livefist only and I have some big doubt about it. once because LCA squads involves 20 fighters, so 83 doesn’t fit and secondly because the number of engines procured for MK2 was reported with 107 and I don’t think we will go for 24 prototypes.
And if you followed the IOC and saw the interviews of the air chief, or other officials, you must have seen, that they always said the most comparable fighter for LCA is Gripen!
So besides all the issues Gripen might have itself, with LCA induction the chances to win in India are more than low, simply because we can go for more MK2 easier and cheaper, with nearly the same techs.

The 83 he mentions is attribtued to ADA, right from the horse’s mouth Please show me where the ACM says it is comparable to Gripen, according to Tarmak007 he calls Tejas MiG 21++. Let us not speculate on MK2 equaling the Gripen NG till it comes out. Co-operation with SAAB may make it a really good fighter.

Why I think MRCA will go for a single engined fighter.

Not least because Russia don’t have the technology to make single piece canopy. The Chinese and AMericans haven’t found it that hard…

Rafael pitches Litening pod for India’s fighter contest

Israel’s Rafael has intensified a marketing push to get its Litening G-4 targeting pod on board whichever aircraft eventually wins the Indian air force’s medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) competition

    HotHog,

Most Jaguars in IAF service don’t use a radar and I think pretty much eveyrhting is made in house. The IMs use Israeli Elta 2032s I think they will also go for that with Darin III jaguars.

Quadbike, did you read the whole article? Because it shows some issues with Gripen too, for example Taurus seems not to be on offer, also Saab wants to offer Swedish airforce Gripen as a stop gap to fill numbers, but that will be Gripen C/Ds only. Not to forget the important issue of Sweden

Taurus is not on request and not on offer. I think it would be the same with the SCALP/Storm Shadow wrt to the Rafale and Typhoon. These are expensive weapons and purchase have to be made outside the scope of MRCA.

which basically means, if there will be another Indo – Pak, or even Indo – Chines conflict, Sweden will not provide techs, or weapons anymore. What’s the worth of Gripen when we can’t use it in war times, or didn’t get the neccesary support when we need them the most? These fighters are not meant to showcase them only, like some Arab countries do it, so this is a cruicial point that makes it even more difficult for the Gripen, if the induction of LCA minimised the chances anyway.

So is it with every other fighter. The French and Russians may provide in case of an Indo Pak war, and the Americans in an Indo China war, global norm is that you don’t supply weapons when two countries are in conflict. We need our own fighters with our on engines and weapons to get out of this situation.

I think that’s a never ending story, but in regard to the topic, the question should be which fighter suits and offers more to Indian forces, EF, or Rafale?
Because then both sides have to compare their fighter not against each other, but to the capabilities Indian forces already have, or lack.

The LCA MK2 will be capped at 83+40 MK1 will not be enough to meet the lower end of the IAF. India cannot afford to have the rest of the fighters be twin engined bahemoths, hence the Gripen or the F 16 is a sensible choice for the MRCA.

The good performance of Rafale during ATLC against EFs, might be less important for IAF, than the facts that it offers way more commonality to present IAF fleet, eases training (pilots and ground crews), because of the vast experience with Mirage 2000s, or could be inducted way earlier then the EF.

With the Mirage upgrade Rafale is bound to have weapons commonality with it. Its still too expensive to buy and upgrade.

True even now at BR there are a few which have it as their favourite :). I think if you go by the majority opinion (amongst Indian forumers) Rafale will win by a big Margin everytime followed by the Typhoon.

    @Quadbike,
    you forgot about the MiG-35!

The MIG is there to just make up numbers has never had a chance of winning.

Oblig, don’t you know maneuvarability is irrelevant. :diablo:

Ok time for a new game. Which among the MRCA contenders have more of a chance at beating the J-20.

    a, Typhoon
    b, Rafale
    c, Uber Hornet
    d, Gripen NG
    e, Uber Viper

    f, none of these.

My answer is f. May be we should scrap the MRCA and buy the F 35.

I am not an expert but it seems to me that the design of Chinese Dragon I mean J-20 more advanced and sophisticated than rival Russian T -50, which seems more classic of all fifth-generation fighter jets?!

I think so as well. But some others are saying the ‘classical’ F 22 style stealth is yesteryears tech and ‘new’ T-50 style is the future

The IAF pilots clearly favour the Gripen according to the latest tribune report. If the decision is purely on merits of the aircraft cost effectiveness etc. Gripen stands a rgeat chance.

Not only that the 2052 was an independent option IAF had.It could have been fitted to other aircraft as well eg MKI as a part of upgrade. That window is closed too.

Independent hardly when American money is used. European/Russian ones can be called that.

    hahah funny logic.

IAF didnt say they want the SABR or that even it is better than the 2052.

Retrofitting the 2052 would be a much easier job and much more logical than fitting some other radar.

Fitting any other radar would cost much more $$ than changing from 2032 hardware to 2052.

Will the US pay for the retendering?

Who will bear responsibility for the delay caused by retendering and the development of the LCA MKII?

BTW…US hasnt offerend the SABR for the Tejas yet!

The US have alwyas said that screw your little indigenous fighter from the start.Even the blind can see it.

and also guess what the LRDE aesa uses components from Israel too.In all probability that will be hampered too and that is the main aim of the US , to stifle its development and not the 2052 per se.

It is like this you have your son and this kid you helped financially wooing the same girl, and you use your influence on the kid to keep him out so that your son can have a clear shot.

America probably paid for the 2052s development so they can prevent its sale to countries where American firms are competing for orders.

To say it is to deny India critical tech is nothing short of conspiracy theory because they are offering the far more advanced APG 79 wih the Super Hornet.
