1971- Isn’t that 40 years ago now. Any help after that? I’m sure RAF too helped PAF in 1947.

Yes it is but that was the last real war fought between the two countries. Kargil was more like a highly localized conflict and IAF was operating within its borders and PAF wasn’t involved but for patrols.

No change there. We have always been on our own against them…..

No offense but Middle Eastern Air Forces have helped PAF significantly against the IAF. Just take a look at ACIG.org articles on 65 and 71 wars. 😉

Great news. I have to say PAF is more forward than the IAF dominated by Male Chauvinists who even dare make public their opposition of the same.

The IAF wants the ODL and have all its assets networked, in such a situation the Gripen NG will be a a great asset and can take on anything in the PLAAF arsenal.

I think on a 1 on 1 fight in BVR it is only going one way with the latest flankers. In WVR you are right. But in a networked environment the Gripen I think would be the superior platform (using AwACS and datalinks).

I am also convinced the Russians will do it. Slavic brotherhood and all. 😉

I think the Gripen is a better platofrm in a net-centric environemnt with its passsive detection capabilities and excellent datalink.

But one on one it is never going to beat an Su 35.

Saudi and UAE simply have no will to fight Israel. If it came to that it may be because they would have to intercept IDF planes on the way to strike Iran, but even in this scenario the Arabs may be happy to see Israel do this anyway…..

While this is true and it will say true for a while yet, the Israelis must be weary of losing their aerial superiority in the region which they have had for ages.

But realistically as long as she is a Nuclear power, no one would take her on in a conventional war, this is the reason why she will at any cost do all she can to prevent Iran from evening it out.

We will see the real prowess of western jets only when it takes on a big enemy. Even then the overhwelming numbers would be winning the war at the end of the day than any ‘tech’ superiority.

Bombing the **** out of Afghans and Iraqis and Air superiority over a nation with a hand full of fulcrums is not really the ideal test for any aircraft.

The strategic air command adds to the detterence which the artillery corps will not. The problem is with respect to China, India is gambling too much on a limited border war. The best way to keep a bigger more powerful neighbour in check is to have the strategic capability to deliver a real blow to its commerical/economic heartlands so that even thought it may win the war at the end of the day, the price to pay will be too much to consider it.

The Pakistanis unfortunatley have learnt this lesson very well.

Wow! What clever chaps those cunning ISI lot are. Keeping his location secret. Glad the CIA dont read Yahoo News, otherwise its curtains for the Pakistanis.

What a load of old Bull…

 So the ISI tells CIA everything ? How is it that the CIA warned Indians about ISI involvement in Afghan Indian Embassy attacks.

The ISI is like a mad dog, it is not under the control of Pakistani government and its sad Americans indirectly support an organization which is responsible for the death of many of its sons and daughters.

The article clearly points out F-15SE as a very real option.

Don’t know why the Israelis are in a souch a rush though. Its not like any of the the neighbouring countries are getting any new fancy toys any time soon either (I don’t count Egypts 30 “new” F-16s here), so.. And especially not Iran.

What about the Saudis and UAE.

Saudi arguably already has a better AF than Israel. And if UAE gets the Rafale then it will have an edge as well.

Suggest you go read what was published yesterday re many of the Brit MoD projects.
If you have any sense of balance and ability to think critically it should change your view.

    To quote:
“What I point the finger at is not a specific project, but at a system within the Ministry of Defence, which consists of perverse incentives to buy the wrong thing, to buy it more expensively than it needs to be bought, to take longer over it and to buy something that does less than was originally intended.”

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/8548682.stm

Before you point out that this is refering to the MoD…pause and have a little think about the implications this has for the pronouncements from the manufacturers of this late, expensive, below requirements and plain missing requirements kit.

Oh and it does not mention the F 35. It does however mention Type 45s.

    I had it covered already

Now if you look at the F 35’s case other than a few lone voices here and there most problems have been about cost overruns, rising unit prices and issues with transfer of tech. Nothing whatsoever related to performance.

No one is doubting the performance but for some amateurs. 😉

At the end of the day the companies are not selling LCD tvs but defense equipment. Each of their claims will scrutinized by the services and experts and if they do not hold water the orders may stand cancelled or worse the company would find it hard to win future orders.

This alone for me is enough to take LMs or any big manufacturers words over the likes of arm chair experts and ‘independent analysts’.
