The United States does not have an official language; however, the majority of the population speaks English as a native language (some 82%).

There have been several proposals to make English the national language in amendments to immigration reform bills.[4][5] None of these bills have become law with the amendment intact.

There is a myth (known as the Muhlenberg Vote) that German was to be the official language of the U.S., but this is inaccurate and based on a failed early attempt to have government documents translated into German.[42] The myth also extends to German being the second official language of Pennsylvania; however, Pennsylvania has no official language. Although more than 49 million Americans claim they have German ancestors, only 1.38 million Americans speak German at home.

Well you can always choose to not buy the car. But then the people will ask why did we pay for it in advance, a difficult question so you are likely to end up with the same car, police man in the bonnet and all.

If I pay a company to develop a car on my behalf, do I not have a right to access the technology for which I have paid?

Let me twist this a bit. So America is Paying for the Car Britian paying for a part of the car that amounts to 5%. And they want the technology of the whole car :).

The Block 60 has AESA radar, has IRST, it’s another story. But as Glitter said, for that price you can buy the Rafale.

I doubt this unless u include the developmental costs that UAE paid for it. It is one of the contenders in the MRCA competiton (a modified block 60) and still regarded as much less expensive than the Rafale.

I see that the Indian Navy has issued an RFI to Lockheed among others. May be if the UK cancels the F 35 we can get a few jets early for the IN.

Swerve did not say there was no written agreement, he said there was no contract.

If you cannot legally enforce it or get your money back then those sorta things are not good are they ?

This is not like a defense treaty or anything it deals with a product…..

    Great. You don’t get it.
You or Sferrin or anybody else for that matter, can’t prove that “my” country “blindly trusted” or was naive as you say.
The point of this discussion is that nobody knows whether “my” country was as you say or whether the US has gone back on agreements.
Some of us are considering the likeyhood of different scenarios and coming to the conclusion, based on the somewhat paltry available evidence, that the most likely one is that source code has been with held at a late stage.
Others are jumping to another conclusion and then hectoring and throwing insults at those who don’t agree with their conclusion.
Of course it is possible that indeed there was absolutely no agreement whatsoever on source codes, as i and others appear to think that would be somewhat strange. The conclusion then given that the statements from the UK indicate that source code is / was expected, is that the people who did the negotiating for the UK were complete and utter numpties.
    Get it now?

No i do not and I will tell you why.

If you go back a few pages Swerve among others said that written agreements on this matter are probably unlikely, ie. you will not have a case in any court because of that. He said that to counter sferrins argument to go to court if they feel the terms are violated.

This is what Swerve Wrote ” You don’t get it, do you?

This is an intergovernmental agreement. It isn’t a contract. Lawyers are irrelevant. “

If there are no written agreements it shows you were wrong and naive in blindly trusting Americans thats all.

If my country blindly trusted Americans without signing documents, (We have had experiences like the Tejas engines, Lockheed consulatancy for the LCA etc.) I would be blaming my government and not whining about the Americans being bad.

You were Naive and now you pay the price. You will buy the F 35 without the source codes, simply because no one in your country has the spine to ditch it and go for an alternative. 🙂
