Well if Repulican like John McCain got in 2008 or in future
YOu wont be discussing MMRCA/F-35 or any alliance.

 All the republican front runners have an Alliance with India as part of their foreign policy piece.

As for i.e talking about being neutral we will be as long as our great neighbour to the east stop supporting Pakistan.

We no longer have a Soviet Union to counter the Sino-Pakistani Nexus, as we had in the past, in that case an Alliance with America is needed in the long term.

Witcha, treaties like MTCR are so full of loopholes and I am sure they will say the KEPD 350s range is less than 300 km in actual combat or something like that.

Do you for example believe that the Brahmos is limited to exactly 290 Km. nope.

IAF may prefer Rafale as a plane but after the rape that was the Mirage upgrade deal they may be wondering how much a Rafale upgrade will cost. It will also form part of the calculations in determining the L1.

Don’t read much into the Snecma engine. India don’t link different deals otherwise the Eurojet should have been the logical choice for the Tejas engine with Typhoon winning the MRCA.

    F-35 could be cancelled altogether.

Hahahahahahaha. Obama won’t commit political suicide.

If India is getting ToT from FGFA & MRCA, no problem in buying pure capability in F 35 & U.S Alliance.

I wonder how much funding India has sunk into the program thus far, given their representatives regularly observe the T-50 tests.

I believe the change in PAK-FA/FGFA numbers has been known here for a while, but reading about it here is somewhat depressing.

    http://idrw.org/?p=5289

So ultimately it won’t be much of a ‘joint development’ at all. For the most part the IAF will be buying the wholly Russian PAK-FA off the shelf with minor(if any) changes in avionics, and the FGFA version created with Indian participation will be in the minority(and in any case, more like a T-50MKI with mainly third-party European-sourced modifications rather than a truly ‘Indian’ contribution).

It increasingly appears that rather than a development partner India is ultimately just a financier and customer for the PAK-FA with little significant design or development input. Far from a Eurofighter-style collaborative effort.:(

If not for the TOT offered here I’d have viewed the American offer of the F-35 to India just as favorably as this. At this rate I can’t really see how HAL will ever gain the capability to independently develop an indigenous front-line fighter.:(

I really hope there is a good level of ToT otherwise we should just buy into the F 35 programme cash strapped yanks and their partners would welcome it

After arguing for ages that the Rafale radar was of adequate size, now Rafale fanboys want a bigger array !

dont expect final engine before 2015,they are still in development.
what problem has the canopy? even yf-23 didnt had one piece canopy, but was stealthier than f-22.

Yes but that is not because it had a two piece canopy the overall design was stealthier, which don’t mean a two piece canopy is stealthier than a single piece one.

Which of the two remaining MMRCA candidates is your favourite? I hope it’s not the Typhoon…

Which, while probably somewhat stealthier than a frame, is not a huge deal either – even the proposed production variant of the YF-23 (an aircraft generally credited with better stealth potential than the Raptor) retained a two-piece design.

Of the two its the Rafale.

    ….and what engine it flew with ? f-100 or f-119 ?

Its definitive engine i guess, but not having one yet is another one of PAK FAs draw backs.

    Good sense of humour

May be no stealthy nozzles but the canopy is one piece. 😉
