India fighter jet deal soars to $20bn
An Indian contract to buy 126 fighter jets from one of two European bidders could be worth $20bn, almost double the original estimate, according to the government.
The defence ministry revised up its initial $11bn estimate after reviewing bids from the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium and France’s Dassault, the maker of the Rafale aircraft, a ministry official told the Financial Times.
Morons with Oxymorons
Bengal will be back in the left fold by the time of next elections. Anyway I was just mentioning the possible pitfalls of choosing US Arms.
What?? Are you expecting BJP to be backed by Left?:diablo:
I don’t expect the BJP to come to power unless the party reinvents itself. I am thinking of a UPA government with left support again.
Only this time the lefts support will be even more vital than during UPA 1 and it would impact on U.S Arms purchases and all that.
If it comes with all ToT Engine & Radar & weapons packages including stand off missiles, then its worth it. If it only comes with negligible ToT then F 35 is the way to go.
@ PLA 😀 IAF may not want to stretch anything past 2015. The current government may be out of power by then and a new government backed by an anti American left will end the F 35 dream.
According to the FT this morning, an Indian MoD official has informed them that the defence ministry revised up its initial $11bn estimate after reviewing bids from the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium and France’s Dassault, to $20bn.
Allez Eurofighter!!
For 20 Billion India should get all the ToT or buy the F 35.
“A meeting is scheduled tomorrow for the bids,” the source told Reuters by phone, adding that it may take two-three weeks to pick a winner.

The decision will take up to 3 weeks so don’t order anything yet.
Do you think F 15 E will fare badly against an Su 27 in A2A.
The worst thing in that picture above is the position of the F 15E. Below the vanilla flanker ? Really ?
May be but a good insurance against the Kaveri failing again.
Buy a single engined MRCA then. Too big Imagine the increased thrust and payload capability.
IMO India should sign another treaty where they can produce all components in house from raw materials in house.
Two of those can power the AMCA and would be great if the Kaveri goes Kaboom.
I will eat a GBU 12 if Typhoon wins in Japan.
Am not saying its simple just saying its illegal.
