The big commissions will be paid during the contract writing, after the final selection.

Bribes are not simply about being selected, in India it’s more like money to get the process moving forward if you don’t want to wait 20 years to get your contract finalized (or even end up cancelled, see the A330MRTT deal).

That has nothing to do with not paying bribes. The MoF found the MRTT to be too costly, and their findings been justified as the same AC is offered at a lower price now for the second tender.

What’s wrong with hoping the money we paid don’t go to waste. We are not a developed country to write off an investment like that. The cost of one of these things can feed many poor Indians for years.

Dassault has the experience of dealing with India, they know how low margin these sales end up with India refusing to pay all the money owned (current practice if you’ve ever dealt with Indian company, they always find something wrong at the last moment that prevent final reception), reverse-engineer spare parts killing the margins on support contract and then there’s all the money spent paying bribes to all actors in the selection process…

Please why talk about bribes after you have made the cut ? Do you know that even a small allegation of Bribes against one of the remaining competitors will have them kicked out of the contest ? And the whole thing will be re-tendered because India don’t do single vendor deals.

Actually the Americans would be rather happy if the Rafale-Tiffy rivalry boils over and comes to bribery allegations.

Because IAF is set on the MRCA that would mean direct purchase of an American platform via the FMS route.

EG210, which crashed in the Aegean Sea on September, 30, 1997, was brought to the surface 3 days later, repaired, flight tested by Eric Gérard, a test pilot from Dassault Aviation in March 2003 and sent back to service…..

It made more sense then because the aircraft in question did not have that much hours on it and the non 2000-5 versions were still considered top of the line. Totally different situation in 2011, because its a non upgraded version, it may be used for parts/written off.

Otherwise I think in it’s current form the RuAF has maybe at best the former-Algeriam MiG-29SMT’s comparable (in terms of weight) to the J-10 … the Su-35 as such I would compare to the J-11B.

Because its unfair to compare China’s version of a Russian design (j11b) and give them credit for it.

And the MIG 29 has been stagnant for ages now, if the MIG 35 was selected for the MRCA that would have made a great competitor for the J 10.

Personally, I believe Dassault have got one hell of a fight on their hands going up against the likes of BAE Systems, EADS, Alenia Aeronautica, Cassidian etc, the Typhoon has a big, ruddy huge advantage there. But when did Dassault screw up the Mirage deal? I thought it was just about ready to be a done deal…Or have I missed something?
