your private message to me said that you’d promise to stop making ‘educated’ guesses if the F-16 or Gripen weren’t selected. Why the change of heart now?

Consider them naive gussess from now on 😉

And if that didn’t happen you said you’d sell your house.

    Done that a month back.

As for educated guesses, we all were making those, just that you got yours right and I got mine wrong.

There were two ways which IAF could go about the MRCA they chose to go with the heavies, we will see if that was the right decision.

Mr Quadbike, I think that you were saying that you were going to do some rather serious things (sell your house and the like) if the Gripen or an American jet wasn’t selected for the shortlist of the MRCA.

Maybe its time for you to step up ?:diablo::D

    Gripen not shortlisted

Ah Kindly point to the post where I said it. I don’t remember what I said I would do. Will be happy to oblige.

That is because South Korea is a much smaller market. And almost all the vendors have other big contracts waiting for them.

May be but unlikely that any of them will ask for compensation.

    1. Russians want other big ticket deals they won’t.

    2. Boeing looking to sell C 17s , Chinooks, Appaches and more P8 Is

    3. Lockheed wanting to sell More C 130Js.

    4. SAAB coastal survilance, chamo and other stuff.

So they won’t want to upset the MoD/IAF Its a buyers market take it on the chin and move on.

    Ok now between those two.

In India such reports are normal all the time and have the secret blessings of a military which wants more funding and faster procurement, like in all countries one needs to find enemies or invent them to justify an increased military budget.

India & Russia are similar in many ways, emerging economies being dragged back by corrupt & stagnant bureaucracies, even when there is strong political will from both sides to iron out issues thigns remain the same.

This is why I think India will need a western/Indian platform to complement the FGFA as well in the future.

What about the operational readiness of the Su 30 MKI fleet ? That will leave such a gaping hole in Indian Airforce, if the Russians hold back supplies to that.

May well be the case but the fact that IAF is suffering from poor Russian after sales support and spares is well documented.

That will depend on how the Russians react. If they see the point and sort it out then all would be fine, if they take punitive measures it could get worse.

This is why the MRCA is so vital, sufficient number of western MRCA will significantly strengthen the Indian position. Also if its not dealt with or if Russia plays hardball India should pull out of FGFA and buy the F 35 + accelerate the AMCA development.

Something that could derail Indo-Russian co-operation in the long term.
