I think one of the Mi 26s in IAF service crashed a month or two ago, meaning there is only three left ? Or is it five ?

‘For heaven’s sake, don’t buy Russian MiG-35’ – Ashley Tellis
For heaven’s sake, ultimately whichever aircraft you finally choose, please, please do not buy the Russian MiG-35 is the plea from strategic affairs expert Ashley Tellis to the government of India with regard to the $11 billion deal for 126 Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft that the European, Russian and American manufacturers are vying for.
Tellis — Senior Associate with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace — pilloried the Russian aircraft saying it was the “weakest of the contenders”.”It does not have the sensor suites that the Indian Air Force would like to see,” he said, adding, “It brings no new weapons to the game from an Indian Air Force point of view.” There are no order of magnitude improvements and its mission performance in terms of readiness, maintenance, traditionally has been horrible.’
“And, I am not sure that the Russians have figured out how to build a machine that is really efficient in terms of spending more time in the air rather than spending more time in maintenance,” he said. Thus, Tellis predicted confidently that “the Indian Air Force is unlikely to think of the MiG-35 as essentially the answer to its problems.”
Eurofighter is serious about the Navy deal it seems.

Much lesser and much more prosperous.
May want to read this. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-12209538
The Gripen NG is not a paper plane neither is the LCA MK1. If you want to see a paper plane it is the LCA MK2.
LSP = Limited Series(Serial) Production. Not Prototype thats PV.
It seems probable that China declined to participate in this project given a belief that Russia stood to gain more from Chinese participation than did China.
He isn’t sure – Opinion not fact.
What are the specs of the Gripen NG radar?
Such a generic statement.Do you mean to say european seekers are much better than Russian ones?
Gripen has an advantage only when it is flying around in a heavily networked environment.Plane versus plane it has not got any real advantage over an MKI.
1. I don’t think Specs are yet released, but it has 1000 T/R modules and a swash plate array. Its AESA, all this puts it way ahead of all the Flanker radars except BARS & Ibris.
2. No I meant the design of the weapons, they are meant to be stealthy from the onset from standoff munitions like SCALP and Taurus to missiles like Meteor and MICA all are built with minimal rcs on mind. (There was an article on it which I read on a magazine a while back will post it when I can find it)
3. The battlefields of tommorrow are increasingly network centric, the IAF is going for AFNET and ODL on its assets coupled with Gripens Datalink it would be formidable.
4. I doubt any of the MRCA competitors will have that much of an advantage over evolved flankers, the Gripen NG has as much a chance against the MKI as any of the competition.
TR1, he must be a past-master at that. 😀
Loke, a flanker with it’s massively powered radars is almost sure to get first look and hence shot, which is a major advantage in aerial combat. it can also pad out its quiver with a decent choice of EW equipment, again backed by the huge amount of available onboard power. and then if the grip comes into the merge, should I go on …… ? :p
as for MRCA, it has taken on a life of its own, at this juncture it really doesn’t make a lot of sense. also, I said LCA Mk2 ~ Grip NG, not rafale, eurofighter or the others. 😉
get my point ?SGW06, china’s military budget is accurately estimated to be around 2.5 % of GDP, if not more.
1. The Flanker has a bigger radar but only the latest Flankers (MKI upwards) will have a radar with similar performance figures of the Gripen NG radar. It is possible that majority of ChiCom flankers Indian NGs face will have inferior radars.
2. The Flanker has enormous RCS and the Gripens is rather low, And it will always be lower compared to the flanker even with external stores because.
a. The Gripen has a lower starting point wrt to RCS.
b. The European weapons are designed with RCS in mind compared to Russian ones.
3. The Gripen has a clear edge in terms of passive sensors and datalink. A group of Gripens can do a much better job together than a group of Flankers.
4. Meteor.
derby is only for LCA navy and C5> R-77 is arguable.
the block 50 also has a lot of flab for that excess weight and is significantly sluggish than the earlier sports car falcons. LCA’s STR would be nothing less then phenomenal unless laws of physics are changed for it, faaar higher than F-16. just compare the wing loadings. 😉
You are way of the mark, the Block 50/52 is not overweight that is the Block 60, they can also fly without the CFTs increasing performance. Also its widely acknowledged that non-canarded deltas like the Mirage 2000 has better ITR than the F 16 but the F 16 beats it easily in STR (The LCA therefore should not be much different).
C5>R77 is not arguable infact all C models have longer range and Home on Jam capability.
