Do u know chinese was the first choice as partner for Sino russia PafKa project but china reject Russia proposal and decide to go for their own 5th gen program. So India pick up where china discarded. and I am very sure it is a correct decision based on what we have seen so far from T-50 vs j-20.

Can you give me a source for this ?

Kinematic/Aerodynamic performance, the F 16 Block50/52 has lots of power and is a true 9G fighter with much better STR than the LCA. AIM 120 C-5 > Derby/R 77 as well.

Actually I am quite envious about the Chinese achievements. But that is not because of the superiority of their weapons but because many things are developed indigenously.

May be India and China would be best buddies in a few decades who knows 😉

The one area where China still lags behind is avionics. Remember Pakistanis wanting to fit French missiles and European radars onto their JF 17s ?

How does one of the Euro Heavies the Rafale offer any better performance vs Chicom flankers than the Gripen NG. The Gripen will have a larger/swashplate radar and a passive detection suite that should be comparable to the spectra and already has a superior tactical datalink. Armed with the Meteor the Gripen NG will probably deadlier than the Rafale in A2A.

Also LCA vs Block 52+/J 10 B will be quite unfavourable for the Indian jet.

I find it inconceivable that the IAF would have any greater advantage than the Indian Olympic team have over the Chinese one.

The gap in the quality of infrastructure and organization tends to hold true across all institutions and levels of society when comparing nations. The saving grace for the IAF is that it doesn’t have to compete for earnest every four years like the Olympic squad so its strengths and weaknesses are not exposed on the anvil of competition.

IAF operates over 100 Su 30 MKIs and there is nothing in the Chinese inventory that is as capable. May be the J 11 B with upgrades will but the MKI is in for a deep modernization as well.

Like I say because of the difference in growth and military budgets its only a matter of time before this proposition changes. The J 20 will probably be in service before the FGFA.

Like Showtime said its a point that you can argue over and over lets stick to our opinions

I find the ACMs comments in bad taste, its something you expect from a journalist.

I doubt IAF has an inferiority complext at present as it has a qualitative advantage over PLAAF at the moment, it may not be maintainable in future, but at the moment it is there.

Boeing is lobbying heavily for the Chinook, from ads and articles on several Indian defense magazines to articles by journos. Whether it will translate to a win in the competiton remains to be seen. It is to be noted that while Boeing asked for DSCA approval for potential sale of AH-64 to India they haven’t sought the same for the Chinook which may reflect their thinking that they have a great chance of winning the attack chopper tender while the heavy lift is all but lost.

The original competiton also had CH-53 (if you look at earlier articles it says so) but now its narrowed down to the Mi26 & Chinook. They need two competitors atleast so there is a no single-vendor situation, in that case the whole thing will get retendered.

Radar size is a weakness however the Rafale does over true multi-role capability some thing that cannot be said about the typhoon.

Also the defense minister has said the decision will not be political and as he is a man of integrity you can trust him.

Indian Army Gets First Shakti-powered Dhruv Copters

The first Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) powered with Shakti Engines named as ALH MK-III was taken over by Maj Gen PK Bharali, Additional Director General, Army Aviation on behalf of the Indian Army on 07 Feb 2011, at a ceremony at HAL’s Helicopter Division, Bengaluru. Five Shakti-powered Dhruvs were handed over to the Army on Feb 11 as part of Aero India 2011.

You have to be joking if you believe that…several countries apart from US have an understanding of stealth concepts and systems, only they dont have the funding or reason to pursue expensive full operational systems. And Russia, by far, is one of the nations, which has understood many aspects and things about radar cross sections, other signatures, and how to minimize them. Look at their investment and understanding in the allied engineering domains, and its clear they have a fairly extensive set up and infrastructure on the topic

Funding was not the only reason if so they could have held back projects like the Su 35BM and Su 34 and gone for PAK FA much earlier. The issue is with putting theoretical knowledge onto practice. Now Stealth is not Magic and everyone would catch up one day, but the U.S lead in leading edge technology is for everyone to see.

For example Russian stealth UAV/UCAVs will probably come decades after European/American ones (the U.S one already had its first flight).

We all know that you do that. I wont argue any more though since I don’t want this thread to be derailed.

IF you accuse some one of something the onus is on you to prove it. Show where I passed on any of my opinions as offical IAF/MOD stuff, I always say May (may denotes possibility) or there is a chance (again possibility).

As for the LCA programme I have supported it always and I have no need to criticise it, IMO IAF should have ordered more LCA even if it is less capable because its our own fighter. But what I do not have is blind nationalism projecting it as on par with more successful designs like the Gripen while it has not proved anything.

This will be my last post on the current line of discussion to anyone.

Please lets not talk about those nonsense Gripen simulations against some unknown variant of the Su-35. They are as laughable as the Eurofighter projections.

Which variant of the Su 35 is not relevant, any variant of Su 35 is better than majority of ChiCom flankers hence the simulation is relevant.
