    Well anyway, in my opinion if you want to take out J20s and Pak-fa then, no the F35A is not the right aircraft for Japan. Certainly not some early build ones as seems to be the case for Japan.

    I suggest that Typhoon or the F22 or its successor would be (and they aren’t all as capable as each other), but the F35 will not be enough for this.

    Typhoon would be good for fighting J-20 or PAK-FA, but F-35 would not?

    I am curious how you came to this conclusion, I don’t see the Typhoon as particularily effective against either when they come about.

    Typhoon entered service with miserable multirole ability as well, not exactly unheard of.

    F-35 is about to enter service, wouldn’t call that very early in development.

    On a random note, I was checking 971 production speeds, back in the day some of the boats in the class were commissioned around 1 year after being laid down….dear lord, talk about churning them out like sausages.

    VASO plans to complete 7 An-148 in 2012. In 2013, 12 machines are planned. Also two Il-96 to the Russian Gov in 2013.

    Jang, I am inclined to believe the RuNavy examples will have the same engines as the Indian Ks. Sadly the RD-33, a good engine, has not received the same priority as advanced Al-31 variants.

    its a MiG-29K with out the tailhook attached yet!

    For who? Indian birds don’t have SOLO so far, nor is it planned AFAIK. RuNavy 29K production has not started yet.
    Could be a company plane I guess, to replace the crashed MiG-29K.
    I don’t get how MiG is in such dire shape, they have quite a few orders for 2nd gen MiG-29 airfames, a number of SMT sales, the UPG contract…

    Airframe is identical to Indian MiG-29K (aside from carrier ops neccesities) IMO, the only advantages I can see are the SOLO wingtip fairings as mack8 spotted. That in itself is good news, since SOLO, SOAR and OLS were removed from the MiG-35 prototypes sometime back due to UOMZ ******* up on production,,this could mean issues were resolved.

    Radar is not Zhuk-AE for sure.

    It certainly is not in line units.

    But stay tuned, the new aiframes will get new weapons as well as they enter service.I like the thought of a laser guided rocket pod for helicopters far more though, would be deadly.
