Which makes sense, I think unlike with terrorism there is a code of chivalry between the pirates, their hostages & Navy men of various nations. The hostages are mostly unharmed, as are the pirates when captured by the Navy.

I would even go so far as to say, piracy is a bit like the occupy protests, people from some of the poorest regions hold innocent people captive to extract money/demands from rich people.

I just facepalmed so hard my nose broke.

Chivalry my hairy Russian ass. The reason they don’t kill hostages has absolutely nothing to do with chivalry.

Poor build quality implies the build is somehow compromised as a result of the construction quality. Do you have specifics on this?

The FGFA should have full stealth nozzles. I think IAF will make that clear, otherwise its just a painted PAK FA.

FGFA won’t have nozzles any stealthier than PAK-FA in all likelyness.

And that is ok, because believe it or not Sukhoi and RuAF are both very concerned with RCS.

    Hmm, let’s wait before celebrating.

Iran has been supposedly buying big licenses for planes from both Ukraine and Russia, but little to be seen from it for now.

Hopefully Tu-204 goes through, Russia learned a big lesson about US parts with the PS-90A2.

    EDIT: Tu-144 doesn’t fly anymore.

I actually have this feeling that the French while perhaps having the best product in Rafale, really suck at negotiating these deals.

Given how desperate they have been to export the plane, and the utter lack of exports, I suspect something else.

Err, any link on how radar is used for IFF? I am pretty ignorant on this matter 😮

“В журнале “Взлет” 11.10 интервью с директором НИИП им. Тихомирова Ю. Белым. Касаются темы создания АФАр для ПАК ФА. Разговор, в частности, идет о пяти АФАР, планируемых к установке на каждый самолет. Основная (Х-диапазон, передняя), две боковых (с такими ППМ, как на основной, но с меньшим их кол-вом) и две крылевых L-диапазона. “

    So what is this about?

Russian AF has been done with MiG-21 for a longtime. All the single engine fighters were axed.

any idea if Russian fixed wing jets will get the same paint job? or is it just helicopters?

No clue, I have a hard time imagining such a dark scheme for fast jets. But that Mi-28 looks ace, and this scheme would certainly look better than the current Su-34 one.

Flight testing of third PAK-FA flying example, equipped with the onboard radar system, likely to begin before the end of the year.

“В состав ВМИРС истребителя 5-го поколения входят пять радиолокационных постов. “
    Plane contains 5 radar emplacements.

Currently there are 3 test stands with the AESA intended for the aircraft.

Voronezh re-enters the fleet after repairs since October 2006. Smolensk is going to take its place in the shipyard, with repairs scheduled until 2014.

Good to see the 949s getting some love.
