Some information posted by the Tactical Missile Corp, regarding sales to MOD in recent years.

Kh-31:
2009: 146 units
2010: 75 units
3M-24 (Uran):
2009: 55 units
2010: 57 units

And for export:
Algeria:
44 Kh-31 in 2009.
Vietnam:
17 3M24 in 2009, 16 in 2010.
8 3M24EMB in 2010.
Syria acquired 87 Kh-31s in the two years.
Well, I keep asking why India should have chosen the Eagle (assuming it was available…which it was), and I have yet to see a compelling argument.
Not to mention there were Eurochoices. Trying to make it sound like India was forced to get Su-30 is silly.
Right, because they are willing to wait on the definitive engine (assuming, it is even allowed for export. Big if.).
If India would have wanted PAK-FA ASAP, with interim engines, that would not have even been possible. All production will be taken up by the 1st RuAF batch for most of this decade.

Probably a repost, but looks nice.
Even by the time of the first MKI delivery, the export Eagle radar picture does not change. US would not have given India the APG-63v2, and even APG-63v3 production did not start until the end of the 2000s. I see no advantage for the Eagle here. You can say in the future the plane could be fitted with v3 AESA…but given Irbis and the planned AESA for Super MKI, the point is moot.
C-5 and R-77 are pretty close, I am not going to say which is better, different sources have different ranges. Aim-9X might finally be around, but with the advent of the RVV-MD…not to mention the RVV-BD, since we are speaking hypothetically here.
Not to mention F-15SG was only produced at the very end of the decade, India would have had to wait. They made the right decision, and did not go for an older airframe.
How exactly is Eagle superior to Su-30MKI in BVR? We are assuming late 90s right? What radar would the US have offered that is better than BARS? Nobody would have given India the brand new AESAs (were they even around? Even then the APG-63(V2) was not exactly a supremely successful set).
The MKI further actually has IRST, and better aerodynamic performance..can carry more AAMs…including longer ranges weapons and IR BVR weapons… So no, not buying it.
May be but I doubt they are that much different when it comes to India. 😉
One would hope not, but you never know. Even when India has special relationship with USSR in the 80s (Indian pilots trialing Mi-24 in A-stan, getting super early looks @ MiG-29, etc etc) they got “export” grade equipment often.
I have read some rumors that the new-gen engine might not be allowed for export, not to India, not to anyone. Don’t really see why there is any logic behind denying India of all nations the newest engine, but laws are laws.
How does it compare, 1 on 1? Badly. Be it the F-16 to the MKI, or the PAF to the IAF in general.
Is that Mig-25 pic real?
Wow….seriously strong aircraft.
jamestown= worthless.
Up to date there are no confirmed plans for re-engine the Su-30 whatsoever and a larger fuel load is only of relevance if you consider the weight of the aircraft itself and its engines fuel consumption and airframe drag as well.
Maybe not, but there is the existence of an essentially plug-in FM1 engines already used on Flanker airframes, not to mention the more advanced derivatives that do require slight structural changes like the 117S. Surely a more secure future in terms of engine advancement than the Rafale.
Regarding radars, even the smaller Zhuk-AE array from a few years back surpassed the MMRCA required radar range, which was not at all huge. Phazatron has stated that the large array detected fighter targets at past 200km range…so IDK. Failing might not mean actual capability for range, but perhaps a hardware failing of a relatively new system during testing.
Jesus, where did the Shah get all the funding?
