Trust me, you don’t want to see Pacific Fleet 956s. Even in the pic above, one of the Sovs needs some engine repairs to be truly deploy-able. Overall shape is much better than some of the Pacific 956s though. They are in a deplorable state, aside from Bystry, which is very much active. Boyevoi is dying, Bezboyazennyi is right next to, and not doing much better, waiting for repairs. Burny might be repaired by 2013.

Baltic Fleet has Nastoichivy and Bespokoiny, the latter needs engine change, but at least its not rusting half assembled like the Pacific Fleet ships.

North has Rastoropnyi, under repairs that are barely moving. Admiral Ushakov is active, and the Gremyshii is moored “in reserve”, though it seems to me its been stricken from the fleet list. Supposedly was going to be dry docked in 2010, but never happened.

All in all. Not good.

Yeah, its been around for a while, where ya been man 😉 ?

No official drawings of the product, but we have seen Saturn patents from earlier 2d designs.

I guess I don’t attribute nacelle mounted engines just to Flankers, but to each his own. Not the worst thing to look like at the end of the day 😮 . I think the look will be very different when the flat nozzles are incorporated.

How can you be so sure?India will buy 50 single seaters (PAKFA) and each at a supposed cost of 100 mn $$ , that alone makes a amount of 5 billion. How can you say that some part of it has not been paid already as development costs?

Eventually, maybe even in near future, yes (all the flight demonstrations and all). But the development that has so far resulted in what we see in the PAK-FA, there has been no Indian money in. I am rather sure of that.

Hopefully in future they can make the underside and rear less flankeresque and more smooth.

Aside from engines, how is it flankeresque? Engine change is a known variable in any case.

M’kay, kind of what I expected then. But to look at it in a possitive way: Sukhoi got this far on its own funds, and is still moving forward.

Well, far from its own funds- the Russian gov has poured as much money into the project as it needs. But I agree, its not a problem so far, I would presume Indian money can only be beneficial. What I hope for is the Russian and Indian versions to be as close together as possible, with corresponding gain in speed/economy of production. Two seats aside ( RuAF will want this anyways ) I don’t think the two will have major requirement differences- aside from India potentially asking for some of its own systems being integrated.

Nothing.

However it seems India is serious about putting money into the program, and Russia is keen to include India in the project. So I think Indian participation will clear up through 2012.

They would have canards yes. However the Irkut guys said MOD officials were visiting them a little while ago, talk about a potential order. IDK, nothing is confirmed.

How is it a bigger investment?..6.5 to 11 billion for the MMRCA.

Talk about expensive. The MMRCA is all the media has been blabbering about for years, and this appears all of a sudden, with a much bigger monetary investment.
