The Indian contribution is on top of strict Russian demands and money. I hate to sound like a broken record, but for the tenth time, the Indian aspect is not driving the project. If India suddenly pulled out of the project and ordered 200 Super Hornets, and bought into the JSF program, it would change little (aside from Scooter dying from happiness) towards the engine nozzles progressing into something more LO.

Yes a blocker can be as stealthy, however there is a trade off in that airflow is greatly disrupted as it has to navigate the blocker resulting in a loss of power which is greater than the loss from a normal clear intake.

It is of course a tradeoff, it makes it easier to take in this case the basic Flanker intakes and simply re-use them rather than designing an aircraft with stealthy surpentine ducts, such as the F-22, F-35, J-20 and B-2.
Another downside is more complexity and higher maintenance and build costs for a blocker system.

S-ducting is still the preferred way iused by manufactures of 4 out of the 5 of the modern stealth combat aircraft and 3 out of 4 of the modern stealth fighters (PAK-FA of course being the exception). S-ducting rather than blocking was also the preferred solution on other semi stalthy aircraft such as the Typhoon and Rafale. Draw your own conclusions from that.

It is painfully obvious that if there will be any design decisions that are poor towards RCS, it will not be an exposed engine fan.

TR1, what are you thoughts on the recent rumour that no Russian fighters will be coming for AI-11? They’ve been bringing MiG-29s or Su-30s for several Aero India’s before, and now with the MRCA competition shortlist possible in a few months time, this is a HUGE statement about what MiG Corp thinks about its chances..Have you read anything in the Russian press about AI-2011 and the MiG-35, Su-35 or OVT coming there?
