That says alot about russian engine tech 😉
More like it is revealing of policy at the time the decision was made.
Speaking about engine tech, how are those American engines on the Gripen 😉
What insults? They stated they’d build a fleet of carriers, now they’ve had to ditch that plan. Whats so insulting about that?
The same will happen with this five radar set-up. It will be quietly abandoned and when bought up they will say it is for the next batch or some other such excuse. I’ve seen this all before a hundred times over.
See my previous post, it repudiates your points clearly. As I said, you can be convinced of what you want, it does not concern me.
If you will allow me the vanity of quoting myself:

hehe, the Russians also stated the T-50 would be operational by 2013 too. Lets not forget they also stated they’d have a carrier armarda of 10 aircraft carriers too by 2020. Non of which will happen. They talk the talk but rarely walk the walk.
As I said, you clearly have a better appreciation of the radar solutions for the PAK-FA than the team itself. Cool.
Not to mention you are comparing what actual team members have said, to claims made by ignorant officials. Whatever works man.
For the record, nobody said they would have a carrier armada. Plans to start construction, are not the same thing. if you are going to attempt to insult someone, at least know the subject please.
hello there my friend from Truro,
how about Irbis-E vs Zhuk-AE?
Without making any absurd claims considering I have not personally operated either of them – I would imagine the difference primarily is the greater flexibility of the AESA set, against a significant range advantage (due to size and power), better scanning angles (Irbis-E is mechanical and electronically scanned)…keeping in mind that Irbis-E is a much larger and certainly heavier set.
You don’t really belive that tripe about five different radars in the T-50 do you? Really?
It has been stated time and time again by Sukhoi and NIIP officials. Tripe, it is not. You know better though!
In other words the Hornet of today has no overwhelming advantages (and certainly has plenty of disadvantages) over even a Su-30MKM, let alone some of the more potent (if we are talking about radar performance) Russian birds. You list a bunch of non-existent upgrades and external stores. Get back to me when SH actually has a built in, operation IRST.
The Super Hornet has a nice AESA radar, which provides great flexibility in A2A and A2G modes. Great. Irbis-E blows those detection ranges out of the water, has far superior scanning angles, not to mention Zhuk-AE which is a comparable AESA (though likely greater ranged). Nothing else about it is earth shattering or unmatchable. PAK-FA with its, for one, multiple radar band and actual radar approach will be something else.
Don’t you know? Super Hornet and its unmatched 100 mile AESA are gods gift to earth. Su-35BM, MiG-35, MiG-31BM are all Russian garbage that doesn’t come close. What in god’s name were the Malaysians thinking when they chose the Su-30MKM over the SH.
But yeah, Scooter got (once again) utterly shut out in the Admiral “Kuzetsov” (still trying to figure out what the hell ship that is) thread, had to drop nonsense somewhere after all.
One doesn’t need an effective counterpoint to utter nonsense:cool:.
If, the PAK-FA can match the performance of the Super Hornets Avionics. I would be impressed……
Edit: No, not going to waste my time. Just quoted for hilarity.
I would not say India has a crushing superiority over China, if any superiority at all. They may not have quite the Flankers that India has, but they have a lot more of them. Quite a few J-10s too.
I am very interested to see where the Su-30MKI goes though. Irbis-E on it would be delicious.
4. It is a real argument because no large airforce operates with a structure where only 10% of its strength (propose LCA MK2 and MK1) is single engined.
Russian air force is 100% two engined ;).
It was originally reported by @Skyman
Skyman “Based on the information released by RTAF when they evaluated its new fighter.
Operating cost of Su-30MK is ‘4 times’ more than Gripen.
They said operating cost of Gripen is only half of F-16 and operating cost of Su-30MK is double of F-16.”

I suppose those numbers are fairly credible. Thanks for the links and info!
A silent flanker would would be even more expensive to operate then current flankers, and the current flanker already cost 4-5 times more then gripen to operate. Still i like the idea of reducing a/c models, and commonality among those fighters kept in service.
“Silent Flanker” is an oxymoron btw, there’s no fighter with larger RCS around.
Mig-31 is higher. F-14 is probably higher. Not to mention something like F-15 is very close, close enough that the difference is negligible. Sukhoi claims some decent RCS reduction for the Su-35 btw. However I think it is pointless to go too far down RCS route with Su-30, better to use its inherent advantage (large size) to fit powerful active defense systems.
Do you have factual evidence to support that 4-5 figure? I have no doubt it costs more, but how much is the question.
Zvezda TV today showed video of those 10 new Mi-8’s we talked about last month and they now have their FLIR balls installed.
