Neither do you know that it doesn’t have distributed sensors, all of us are speculating his is as good as yours.

Exactly, not to mention there appear to be spherical emplacements behind and in front of the cockpit, apparently there is intent in that direction.

If anything, this is the new threat that the USAF has been dying for. They can justify expensive new programs now.

I am not saying same level of potency as F-35’s sensors, I am saying assess the scenario where it will come up against F-35 and have appropriate requirements to ensure at least competitiveness in a2a.

How do you know that without (reliably) knowing any of its characteristics?
Let’s wait and actually find something out aside from a few pics before deciding exactly where it stands on terms of material superiority.

AND: armamant counts as well. You are aware that a stealthy F-35 (with no external armament) carries only 2 (yes, two) air-to-air missiles in its belly!! When those are expended it’s back to WWI turning and shooting.

I was under the impression they plan to integrate 6 internal AAMs without a bomb load.

Soobrazitelny and Boiki will go to the Baltic Fleet. Boiki will be launched this fall. With 3 20380s going to Baltic, hopefully they will yank the bigger assets out of there and put them where they belong (North, Pacific, or even Black Sea to replace one of the bigger ships).

Even if they do not achieve F-35 stealth levels or sensor potency, it does not make them stupid or anything similar imo.

if it had less raw a2a performance than F-35 it would have been called H-20.

I agree in regards to raw performance, but a2a is more than that. Keep in mind I am not saying F-35 definitely trumps it (just dont tell that to WW), but given US aero technology lead over everyone else, their stealth expertise, sensors, etc, I would not count the F-35 out as a credible, potentially better a2a opponent.

Well, people have been commenting how amazing the J-20s finish looks, I was simply referencing that phenomenal paint. I am sorry that not everyone feels the need to laud the amazing J-20 in ever post, I apologize for hurting your feelings. Nice of you to ignore the actual question, regarding inlet geometry.

However apparently pointing out potential missing paint = pointing out design failure. Ok guys. Whatever you say.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates proposed to the japanese Government to buy either F-15, F/A-18 or F-35’s to counter the threat from chinese J-20. I think the americans need to wake up? Can’t they understand that the emergence of the J-20 is a real game-changer for countries like Japan and Taiwan?

It is simply not enough to offer those types. Gates should offer the F-22 to Japan, and nothing else. Or offer co-development for the ATD-X!

I wonder if the japanese will give in, and buy lesser-performing aircraft from the americans.. :rolleyes:

What basis is there for the claim that the F-35 is lesser performing than the J-20? For all we know it has significant advantages in A2A.

In that case I must have mistaken. Apologies. Yet I am still convinced the cancellation of canard has little to do with thrust vectoring. Perhaps it’s structural improvements that leads to significant shift in CG.

Actually, I am not sure myself now. Gonna go do some research on the topic, will get back to you on that.
