Clearly, we are not likely to get any official word from either Russia nor China. Yet, the fact is the J-20 is performing Taxi Test’s and is just about ready to fly. So, it has to be powered by something.

Also, let’s not forget that the 117S is in production for the Su-35. So, supplying a small number to China shouldn’t be a problem.

Why don’t you enlighten me and tell me how many 117S have been made. SU-35 production hasn’t exactly hit a high number yet, likewise 117S.

Plus, didn’t Russia just offer China the Su-35. Which, is equipped with 117S’s???
And if China chose it, they would tool up and increase 117S production. No indication that this has happened yet.

Yeah, unnamed sources have been making all sorts of speculation, does not make it anything more than speculation. 117S has not exactly had huge production numbers yet, in fact quite the opposite. Delivery to China, especially some time ago would be unlikely, and further would likely be noted in Russian aviation community…I do not recall seeing anything.

It is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

Clearly, despite the talk of exposed fan-blades and Su-27 derivative from some sections, this aircraft has been designed for stealth & the designers are keeping the end objective in mind when it comes to production variants.

We really have no clue what’s in the Su-27SM. The Bars is all great, but something along the lines of an AWG-9 in power for even a pulse-doppler is “very good.” Reduce the power a bit, increase processing power and you have something comparable.

For all we know, it could even be a Pero PESA. Fact is, we know nothing. And it really is a little irritating 😉

Not really. Dig around on Russian forums, I’ll see what I come up with. But I can promise you 100% it dos not have Pero, and with 99% certainty that it is N-001V. Better than any exported N-001 variant, but certainly inferior to Bars.

That quote by the Russian general is also included in Yefim Gordon’s Book “Modern Russian air power” but frankly Russian generals have been speaking nonsense more often than not.

The Su-27SM is pretty much equal to any export Su-30 variant.
They have small difference in Radar, engines output thrust, fuel capasity, drag penalty etc etc..

Radar difference does not that seem that small to me. In other areas Su-27Sm may indeed have advantage over export flankers.
