Indeed, the French deal did not seem expensive to me as a stand alone, but when compared to MiG-29 deal, not so hot. Anyways I can’t claim to know the exact specifics, maybe it includes weapons engine spares etc in large amount….or maybe not.

Sarkozy is going next month…regardless of the MMRCA he has already bagged a 1.2 billion award to upgrade the Mirage 2000’s in the IAF.

23 million per airframe? Dear lord that expensive.

So your point is that the F-22 is inferior in every way to the YF-23?

Did I say that? Lets read a little more carefully.

    3. The notion that in America we let companies compete in order to choose the inferior design is silly at best.

The notion that the absolute best product is always chosen, is silly at best. Mod Edit: Insulting personal comment removed. Don’t make any more!

I thought Ukraine signed some sort of provision that the ship would not be used for military purposes…either way, good going Ukraine.

There has been repeated mention of 20-30 MiG-35s being purchased by the Russian MOD sometime soon. Not sure if its guaranteed though…

He is being sarcastic. It is quite true that the Bison is better than many of the regions aircraft.

Cheap and plentiful is the phrase you are looking for. There are plenty of merits for a cheaper airframe.

MiG-21 Bison is quite viable against much of Pakistan’s arsenal, and a decent portion of China’s. No world beater, sure…

From a pure condition state, the Sovremennys look alright. What was updated and done inside lately during overhaul is what matters, and that’s COMPLETELY unknown – classified or otherwise.

This is easily seen from Navsource – surely better looking than Lazarev @ Kamchatka for example 😉

No, it is not completely unknown at all. The balancer forum has lots of serving/connected people with excellent access to info, and their posts and photos corroborate my list. The active ones are known perfectly well, the others have recieved little to no overhaul work. That is simply a sad fact.

Looking at a few years old external pics doesn’t tell you anything. They might look ok on the outside, but that wont help of engine needs replacement. Hence why some of those “ok” looking ships haven’t left dock in like 7 years.

Lazarev also doesn’t look any worse than a few of the Pacific Fleets Sovs. I’m looking at your Boyevoy and Burny.

Will not happen. They had their chance.

And its a good thing they decided against it. This 1-2 airframe business is nonsense.

That report seems dubious to me in any case.
