Shame – but thankfully no-one hurt and reports suggest the damage is not too serious. I see the pilot is reported to be a Mr Rudder – clearly born to fly – what a great name ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks wilkofife. As I am away from base at the moment I will declare an “open house” so as not to delay things.

Was it the Volaire predecessor to the Aero Commander 100?

Isn’t there someone who’s still interested in this thread? If not, perhaps I’ll start writing its obituary!

    Hi AA

I really enjoy this thread and am amazed at the range of material that appears. I love to learn about types I may never have known about. I think the problem is that this thread will only thrive if a number of people feel able to participate. If the aircraft depicted are SO obscure that the type is say non production and pre-WWII or in some cases doesn’t even have a name, then this will reduce the potential contributors to a handful. Such esoteric items or a concentration on aircraft from one country could eventually just kill the thread.

It does show Duxford, but strange that the credits at the end of the clip say Aero Legends from Headcorn 07 Aug and don’t mention Duxford – is that because the organisation is based there but operated this flight from Duxford ?

Some of your shots appear to include silver RAAF Lincolns. RAF and RAAF examples were both operated out of Tengah, Singapore against terrorists in Malaya. Any chance it could be there?

For just a moment I got all excited as I thought you had got a Dragon Rapide ๐Ÿ˜€

Only joking – well done on getting this – presumably it retains the red and white scheme which Dominies sported for most of their lives, which if so is nice as the RAFM example has the later black scheme ๐Ÿ™‚

Anyway, my reason for posting is to ask when the last time was that anybody would have had the opportunity to see five fully-assembled Lancasters in a single day.

Any day ….depends what they were on at the time ๐Ÿ˜€

Seriously though, a novel project – must have been fun.

… Anyway we looked at the aircraft and my sister pointed out two panels , one with a T and the other C.
Before I could explain she said that the Germans thought of everything, Look, even a place for tea and coffee!

I hope you gave her a rocket.

    Tim,

When you write to Santa later this year, I suggest you add an Atlas to your list of requests.

    Kbely = Czech, Krakow = Poland. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Ooops and double oops – what the heck was I thinking! Absolutely right ….and I’ve been to Krakow too. I’ll accept the wally award for today – apologies. I’ve deleted my earlier post.

The Baz Stevens video also records (at 0.54s) the aircraft hitting an obstacle (which can be heard and seen shattering) during the ground slide.

Hi Tim. Both are generally correct*; the ‘oa’ stands in for the o-umlaut. You’ll see the same with a certain head of the Luftwaffe’s name rendered both ways.

Given the Anglo allergy to letter accents, an accentless alternative is more likely here and thus a good alternate to have.

    Regards,

*The Lt Cdr is the final arbiter of how he chooses to spell his name in particular!

Thanks for clarifying that – very helpful – you learn something every day!

The RNHF team details list Lieutenant Commander Christopher Gรถtke (not Goate) but two posters, one of whom says he has flown with him, have spelt the name as Goate – but I believe it is Gรถtke.

    Re 36

Provided it is made clear that the comment is speculative, little harm can be done. Speculation – not necessarily to do with the subject under discussion – can perform a very useful function in reminding us of the existence of other, perhaps more obscure, potential solutions that can easily be overlooked.

Use all the available tools – speculation can be one of them.

    John

I take your point, but I think that only applies in certain situations and I’m not convinced this is one – but have no wish to debate that here and take the thread off at a tangent.

Well, where the internet is concerned, speculation has a nasty habit of very quickly becoming mistaken for fact!

I agree. In addition judgemental speculation about the cause of an incident and uninformed suggestions about who may be liable for any consequences can unjustifiably tarnish the reputation of individuals and organisations.
