That’s it – over to you.
Sincere apologies for not responding – was away and unable to access. Glad someone has picked up the baton.

Hi Anecdotage and welcome to the Forum.
Interesting thread – even if is 6 years since the last contribution!
I assume your comments relate only to the turbine and jet types later operated by Air Anglia – their DC-3s all had a natural metal lower fuselage. Attached is an example – I took this shot when the aircraft was in the Fields hangar at East Midlands undergoing overhaul.

Found FBA-2 ?

The glider version the AW52G was preserved at the factory entrance at Baginton but was scrapped / burnt eventually.
Tim
Cool. What’s the history of this aircraft, please?

😉 Mike, that’s why I referred to it as cartridge not shot gun start! My only in-cockpit experience of this system was back in the 1960s when in Provost G-ASMC which was then still using this type of mechanism – quite impressive, it started first bang.

Very interesting – thank you for the links.

No thanks. I prefer to have emotions stirred by the sound of iconic engines – Merlin, Clerget and the like.
What a coincidence – my name is also Tim and I too recently spent a lovely time in a 1925 Bentley – my day also had aviation connections, as I was driven to a garden party at a private strip where I was able to take the attached picture of the car alongside a rather appropriate aeroplane. All in all a rather nice day. Sorry to hijack your thread!

I thoroughly enjoyed this year’s show. The TFC organisers did a remarkable job to rejig the programme to take account of the loss of the European aircraft that were weathered in. It was a privilege to see the P-26 fly on the Friday and Saturday – witnessing the starting sequence was one of the highlights. The Super Constellation’s graceful display was also a reminder that not every performer needs to wring out the aircraft to impress.
I was unable to attend on the Sunday. Having made such an effort to bring over the P-26, it was a shame the crowd couldn’t enjoy it in the air on the final day. Why were the P-40C and P-26 unable to take part on Sunday?

Carries same scheme and code as XT453 which seems to move around to different venues where it is then shown as a static exhibit e.g. Was at Culdrose Air Day last year.

I would agree – but Lyneham’s Comet still got the chop apart from a portion now at Old Sarum.

There is also a small collection at Dromod which includes some ex Irish Air Corps aircraft and a DC-7 nose and other components. It is co-located with some preserved railway engines and vehicles at a station yard. It is listed on this third party site: http://www.aviationmuseum.eu/World/Europe/Ireland/Dromod/Cavan_Leitrim_Museum.htm
Not clear about opening times now, but I found the people there very welcoming when I visited a few years back.
