Guessing……Canberra WJ775 B6?
…eh?
Baz
It did.
There was a quick air test, load up, refuel and then gone…..
Took photos, but unable to load on this website.
Well not quite – I’ve said it a few times now but I think people either haven’t noticed, or they think I’m suffering from some sort of delusion! CAF stated repeatedly both on the internet and in direct comments to me that the St.Mawgan venture was ostensibly a maintenance/restoration facility and that attracting visitors was to be only a secondary “bonus” rather than a main motive.

Any chance of showing your source please. I’m struggling to find it.
Baz
I’d prefer to hear that from the Council, Airport or CAF, thanks 😉
Tim
You did….he is.
We’ll I don’t run an aviation museum, that’s admitted. But I do have two very successful motor trade outlets, a vehicle parts business, a motor home hire business.garden centre and three homes which I also own, so I know how to make money if that’s what you’re asking Moggy? .
With all your bragging, no mention of anything to do with aviation preservation then.
…. I guess the St Mawgan Shack is for the knackers yard now then?, but if that’s the price to pay to get the collection back to a central, accessible ,logical location then it will be a small sacrifice…
Obviously not.
In an ideal world that Shackleton would already be on a couple of lorries bound for East Fortune, as it is criminal that there isn’t one up here.
Perhaps you should have got off your backside, started a ‘Save our Shackleton for East Fortune!’ campaign, helped raise the money via social media, organised transport, gained support of the local population, raised a dedicated volunteer work force, set out a restoration plan, got involved, etc.
Looks like you already had 2 or 3 chances up there and 1 down here and failed to act, there was nothing stopping you.
If you feel so strongly about these matters why did you not do something about it ?
Tim
Have you just come out of the pub?
Baz
Rich
I withdrew my interest after another forumite stuck the boot in, December.
This was my first (Shackleton) contact since then.
I don’t know the ins and outs, just that there is some support when the time comes.
Baz
The fact that this situation seems to have been wilfully changed is obviously not CAF’s fault
……..eh?
Tim
Nothing ‘wilful’ happened here.
The conditions involving the rental were: cheap for the first year, then to be put up year two to a level that the hangar is worth.
It was known by CAF on day one this was going to happen.
Secondly, we should bear in mind that the St.Mawgan relocation was not about setting-up a public attraction as such. It was to set-up a maintenance/preservation base, the public’s access being a secondary issue.
If that was the case, they didn’t need 404 hangar, cafe, abundant car parking, big electric gates, 80+ volunteers, shop, bouncy castle, flight sim, cinema, etc
All they needed then, was the HAS (which they also rented) for the maintenance/preservation of their aircraft.
Attracting the public and making revenue was the highest priority CAF had.
Baz
I was with the RAF yesterday and can safely say that the future of the Shackleton is uppermost in their minds.
The words ‘Classic Air Force’ did not enter the conversation with that future.
Baz
He is nothing less than a vile murderer.
He murdered 149 innocent victims.
That’s how he should be remembered.

Here is an ideal script………..

Once Classic has done a (predictable) runner, the people left behind might be able to pick up the pieces and come up with some sort of rescue plan. I have seen their tenacious attitude recently, they are not finished yet.
