    Ultra rare shot of RAF St Mawgan Fire crew practicing on my gaff circa 1990.

    I had on this occasion parked a sherpa minibus in the woods behind my bungalow which doubled as a ‘crashed’ Hunter and my missus was ‘rescued’ as the pilot. I usually lit 2 or 3 three bonfires and the crew commander Steve Bowden (now W.O.) allowed the boys to let rip.

    These were carefully organised exercises involving Fire, SMC, ATC, BCU and Spitfire Corner (No Spitfire here then)

    This would obviously attract attention from passing motorists!

    We did a few here over the years.

    In fact, most of the “comedians” doing the roasting were about as funny as sitting in a cactus patch when you have severe piles.

    :D:D:D:D:diablo::):D:D

    Not. Funny. Whatsoever.

    oops!😮

    If you keep your ear to the ground, they (replicas) come up from time to time in Flypast and aeroplank monthly, usually battered, but cheap.

    That is a gem, do you know what year?

    The trees behind bays 5/6/7 have yet to be planted and where the cars are parked (bay 7) you can make out a small concrete roadway leading to the huts.
    The hut at the end on the left was mine during the early eighties and briefly when I returned in 88. Air traffic used the rest as their Night flying store.

    The cottage bottom middle of the photo is called ‘Rose’ cottage and this was offered to me as one of two places to live when I returned in 88. I chose the bungalow in the lay-by next to the runway and thats where I live today.

    Ahhh, Chox, couldn’t remember the sequence of events here, yes you’re right, forgot you jumped out for a picture ( it was 20 years ago!!)

    It is right, you would have to place the photos (if they were 6 X 4) about 1.5″ apart. Knowing Chris, I bet there are more photos between those two!:D

    Sink the Bismark

    This afternoon……..nicely acted (Kenneth Moore), good set piece battles, not ruined with soppy love story etc. Although not a ‘boaty’ person, I didn’t realise HMS Hood was our biggest capital battleship and there were only 3 survivors from 1,500 sailors when hit at flank speed from Bismark. I read somewhere she sunk within a few seconds as the wreckage drove herself underwater as the engines were not damaged. In Cullompton Devon during the mid-eighties I met a sailor who served on the Hood but transferred off prior to the final voyage, I vaguely remember he was sad about losing his mates but the conversation went onto double yellow lines up through the high street and how difficult it was to park now (then)

    Great film
