the ultimate flypast ( 3rd and final )………..flap, end of an era:(
An irritating Ebay seller. He/she said that there would be no B-I-N price, and that the auction would run naturally. So I’m the high bidder with less than 48 hours to go, and he/she pulls the auction, stating that someone had bought it using B-I-N (which he/she said wouldn’t be an option). Grrrrrr.:mad::mad:
I’m not bidding on anything they have for sale ever again.
Have to say people pressurise the seller, I very recently sold a trailer on ebay with clear no buy it now instructions, however, people still ask how much will you take for it? One guy told me he was coming down with the cash at the weekend and take it away! Another asked me to deliver it @< 20p per mile with his offer. They both were making these offers with the auction price on the screen at the time ( less than halfway into the auction ). By holding out and telling them to poke off! I made a more realistic price.
If you’re selling, never put a telephone number on your listing, you could get hounded into submission. Don’t get bullyed.

Had a trawl through some of my stuff, no pictures though. it seemed to be in the workshop quite a lot with collapsed undercarraiges and survived till late 1944, when it was scrapped.
There were 2 pictures of it here. http://isee.gateshead.gov.uk/detail.php?t=objects&type=ext&f=&s=&record=39&name_title=pit
but they don’t appear to be there now. You need to email them to put them back up.
There was a young man who died of cancer recently who made an accurate model of this spitfire which was donated to the North East Aircraft Museum, this might be useful.
There is a small write up in a book called ‘Gifts of War’ page 144.
I’ve written the serial (R7125) on my white board and if any pops up I’ll let you know.

Is there really no sub detection facility available at all for the UK from next week???
My mates got a microlight and a pair of binos……………how can a government have such a lack of understanding on the defence around our country and our home waters. What a total sham. 4 years is a long time to go without a dedicated maritime aeroplane. I just hope our (many) enemies don’t exploit it.
Why did they not run the remaining Nimrods for UK defence only, instead of finishing them off out in Afganistan, who is accountable? GGGRRRRRRRRRRR!!
This country is just a bit more vunerable…again
……I’ve still got the scars………:)
Landing runway 31 at RAF St Mawgan early 80s
No Nimrod…..no St Mawgan…:(
In all the years of working with them, I only had one flight in a Nimrod. To get the best out of that flight, I spent several hours poling the stations flight sim around ( and beating up the airfield low level ), 1 hour into the real flight I sat in the right hand seat and spent 20 minutes learning how to turn without slipping or skidding and using the trim wheel.
On the ground my lasting impression was the klaxtons hooting and the tannoy blaring “DINGHY,DINGHY,DINGHY, SEARCH AND RESCUE NIMROD – SCRAMBLE!!”, the mad dash on Nimrod flightline, within minutes, the hemp MR2 purposefully trundling along the southern taxiway, without stopping, lining up and going for it!
Day or night, fair or foul, made no odds.
I lost more crockery and suffered more injuries in my bungalow at the end of the runway when a Nimrod wound up than with any other aeroplane.
(Cat running for cover, usually managing to snag me in the process)
I still have mugs with glued on handles to this day and a pane of window glass pressure cracked during an airshow practice,
When my ‘new’ Maine coon cat walked round my gaff a couple of years ago seaching for mice, she knocked a mug onto the floor taking the the handle off. As I glued it back on, I named her ………….’Nimrod’
Thanks for the memories 42sqdn & 236 OCU
