Not a hymn, but back in 2006 a gent in the USA put some lights on his house, timed a display to music, transmitted it on a FM frequency so people could take their kids and watch (and listen) from the comfort of their car……………….simply brilliant:eek:

When in the military and subsequently as a civvy working on RAF St Mawgan driving around the airfield, I always tried my best to look after spotters gazing over the perimeter. Often letting them know of impending movements or when there was a break in flying so they could go and get something to eat. On the odd occasion and if I had time, I would take their camera to the ‘interesting aeroplane’ and take the photos for them. There was no fence around the airfield, just a cornish stone wall and the guys would often stand on it to take pictures. If noticed by ATC, I would get a radio message to shift them on…..I never did, I would sit and chat awhile then move on. Although not a spotter myself, I would often collect the odd number for them if they missed it, why?
1. Easy to educate these guys if you are actually talking to them.
2. They would police themselves (and visitor spotters) not to do anything naughty.
3. They often reported suspicious activity outside the boundary that we could not see and we would pass it on to our police.
4. It would promote the RAF.
5. Because I could.
We had a good bunch of spotters and I would not spoil their party, some of the youngsters could be future employees:)
As some on here could vouch, I would play ‘pranks’ on fellow servicemen (and women) but not with ‘my spotters’

Last day today
The boys in the tower told me that at 5pm, they’ll simply shut everything off, then walk down to the pub for a drink.
End of an era
Good luck to all the staff at PCA in finding new employment.
