If you do a Google on The Q6 the pprune thread come up.
aarh, the memory is working!! yes charlie was very lucky, unfortunately the A/C was not so. The incident prompted the fitting of fire sleeve on all Gipsy Major Fuel Hose’s. Im sure i have a pic of her somewhere i will see what i can dig up.
Depends on whether you are wanting an original engine or not? several N28’s flying in the USA with MP14 radials minus the gearbox in them.
Thanks David i’ll take a look at that.
Im sure DDD/JHO had just come out of some work at the time of the engine fire incident and had been repainted in “Brooklands ” colours. Or maybe the memory aint what it used to be!!! have to look through some old pics.
Wasn’t Charlie Shea-Simmonds,leader of the Diamond 9,pilot of G-ADDD when it force landed?
Thats what i thought?
.
Hmmm. Blue Max. If we add another two bays to the BE’s wings and stretch the fuselage a little – a GW 18 replica perhaps??
No! No! and No!!!
Alan – that is indeed the machine . She seemed to be everywhere and then disappear almost as fast! The Fox Moth is back in New Zealand . Out of interest the EAAS from memory operated a Dragon Rapide in the scheme of the Kings Flight G-ADDD before an inflight fire resulted in a forced landing . The fire sadly got a hold and destroyed her.
Wasnt G-ADDD in “Brooklands” colours at the time of the engine fire and untimely demise.
DH 4, now there’s a thought
Spitfire squadron scramble, i think is when the airfield is bombed and some of the taxying planes get hit and one runs into the fuel bowser.
“Dont just stand there get one up!!!!!!!”
Indeed – plenty of opinions but isn’t that what all forums are about!
As for replica’s – fine if they fill gaps in our knowledge of early aviation as I guess the likes of the Bristol Monoplane has .
Is the Blackburn Mono not an Original!!!! The Hornet Moth was indeed in need of major work. The Active and the mew gull were owned by a private individual who has the right to sell them when ever he pleases, he had let OW use them for many years. I for one would have loved to see the Camel on the OW turf, damm shame HP missed it! dispite the quetioning on this forum as to its originality!, but i wont dig that one up again!! 😮 I would love to see the likes of an RE8 gracing the skies once more, but i would still rather somone builds a rep of a DR1 than nothing at all, and after having the good fortune to fly the late Robin Bose’s DR1 many years ago before it and him were sadly lost, i look fwd to seeing two fly in the UK in the near future.
Once the BE2 is up and going, if funds and wife permit! i would love to get my teeth into a DVII or somthing similar. Maybe even a RE8!! A RE8 flying with the Bristol Fighter would be a sight to behold, and realisticaly the only way to achive that is with a replica.
Getting back to the point of this thread, hope the Camel has gone to a good home and it is seen up and about and not locked away.
Which plans is the DR1 based on? Sands or Redfern? got a nice set of German ones that the Blue Max DR1’s were made of. Certainly be nice to see some pics of the progress.
Blimey oh Riley!!!!! saw that and thought”What!, not again!!!!” 😮
Got this one of the two seat Spit when it made an unschedled arrival at RAE Bedford durring the filming. Pic was talken by Eric Gayton who worked there at the time.
Maybe we can sort that one out this time around when she is up and about again, congratts on the new addition to the family by the way.
