Answer? Dont buy a Yak!!
According to a earlier post by mutant, Transport Canada had grounded all Harvards prior to the weekend so sureley this applied to HFL example, but hay ho, as long as everbody is safe.
Will be interesting to see if there are any UK registered Harvards flying this weekend.
Duxford at HFL open day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was a corker of a model, as were all of them. Now, anyone know where I can get hold of some Dak plans……..

“I told you not to blow the bloody wheels off!!!”
Very sad news indeed, his legacy to us all is his wonderfull designs. thought go to his family and friends at this time.
That’s the way, start ’em young
Yep, my son even beat me, i was a year old. Charlie went at 7 months on the 17th Dec 2003. He was so impressed with the Chipmunk he went to sleep!
is grand mother still hasent forgiven me!!!
Lets not be to opptermistic yet, this is just the emergency AD more could follow, especialy if more cracks are found in other A/C. A requirement of the AD is to report back all findings of the inspection within 7 days of said inspection. Also in the Ad it says, and i quote”The NTSB is still investigating the accident. When all information from the investigation becomes available,FAA may take additional AD action to address continued opperational saftey of the affected airplanes. This could include, but is not limited to, inspection, modification, and/or replacement of the critical components.” As Yak 11 said, there could be interesting times ahead and at the end of the day i would rather make sure that all is well rather than risk two more lives. Maybe TC are just awaiting the findings of the investigation before coming up with the required action. And lets not forget that a CAA AD has not appeared yet!!!
nope….compass swinging with a compass rose in the words of a famous song…’same as it ever was!’
A compass such as this known as a “landing compass” is indeed used for compass swinginging. The A/C is set up on the oppropriate headings and then that checked by someone with a landing compass standing either infront or behind the A/C. This is done even if a compass rose is present, and im my experiance it usualy takes place in lousey weather, often snow storms!!!!!!!!
Is this likely to be taken up by the various European authorities?
You bet!!!!
I have seen pics of the Gotha and it seemed to br progesseing fairly well. I have to agree with Melv, at the end of the day the owner has the right to determine the A/C’s fate and as Melv says he deserves a rest and so does his bank balance! The A/C is inded a historic A/C in its own right now and deserves to be preseved, the lack of reliable engines means that one day the worst could happen. As for OW buying it and opperating it here, i fear that the powers at b would not allow the loverly beast to opperate here permanently, i doubt approval would be granted for the engines ay the very least. Be thankfull that there are people out there who do spend lots of there hard earned money to allow use to see wonders such as this, So enjoy it while you can and i wish them safe passage on there current exploit.
If you want to see a WW1 bomber fying in the future then try building one yourself and see just how hard and expensive it is, and thats before you get it flying!!!
And Tony, if you do and your short of a pilot! i’ll be there!!!
Good to see SUSY up and about and happy in her new home, although she is still greatly missed at Sywell. Every time i walk in the hangar thereis a very big space were she used to be!! So pleased she has gone to a good home and is where she belongs, in the air!
