It would be one hell of a Stuka pilot, who could hit a T-34 from that angle……looks like they hit straight from the side.

Kelly Johnson at his best 😎

Saw one in Shannon a few years back, every other aircraft appeared ungainly and ugly beside it.

Here are some great pictures of the Breitling Connie:

For many hobbyist it was also a matter of developing and printing your own pictures. This was/is more expensive and complicated than B&W.

Even in the 80’s most books on hobby photography only covered B&W developing and printing.

Several thousand Gotha Go 145 were built and only a fuselage frame survives today..

Thats a good candidate. 1182 build and 2 surviving airframes (both in bad condition) – one in BodΓΈ, Norway and one in Berlin, Germany.

This photo was taken before work ceased for the winter. Many hours of metal cutting and rivetting ahead. Then it ONLY needs is the cockpit and visible areas to be fully fitted out, primed and painted then its finished.:diablo: I started off with a cockpit area only then my imagination took hold. I was then going to stop at frame 19 as my garage can’t take anything bigger but I decided to make a removeable rear fuselage with fin. What about wings you may ask? Well they are big brutes so I measured everything up and realised that I couldn’t even get one inside at an angle. I suppose I could build wings outside but we only get about 5 sunny days a year in scotland and they would get soaked in the rain or the local B……..s would set fire to it. Before the cost of aluminium shot up I purchased the sheeting but didnt realise the weight of the shipment and nearly damaged my back helping to move if off the lorry. Subsequent movement has been sheet by sheet.
    πŸ˜€

Oh even the wooden frame is starting to get too heavy to move on my own so I need to be able to move it around in my garage that means I need to build a trolly and need to be able to transport it so that’s a tow hook for the car and some form of trailer. May even be able to get the car in the garage next winter.

What a great looking project – good luck with it.

Its a bit like any other hobby you should never add up the costs in advance as the shock might put you off. (You certainly shouldnt let your spouce know!!) I think a full size GRP model costs around Β£20K and you might be interested in the Replica built to support the Royal British Legion (Ripon Branch). The project leader is/was Mike Eastman. Viewing the following page http://www.myspace.com/rblspitfireproject will give you an idea about how it was constructed.
I think it looks pretty good from the photos and I plan to view it in the flesh
My own wooden framed fuselage project cost a lot less (in case wife reads this) but it will never be a real Spitfire. Hopefully it may look like one from a distance.

    Thats a smashing model 😎

And this wonder was build for Β£20K?

Looks like they took the time to build the base structure close to the real McCoy. I guess time and money could be saved if this unseen detail was discarded and focus was put on the “shell”.

I forgot to ask; do you have photos of your own fuselage?

Second part of my post was: would the interest in these types warrent a full scale model of them.

Would a museum be interested in exhibiting such a full scale model of a Stirling (or any other of the types), if they had to pay for the fabrication?

By full scale model I mean a nonfunctional aircraft, with identical exterior. Think gigantic airfix…

So by definition, any photo taken by a person working for the government (inc. on-duty service personal) automatically becomes Crown Copyright and would of had its copyright expire if it was taken before 1959.

just to put a spanner in the works does this mean that any photo i took while i was on active duty belongs to me, but if i publish said pics they are Crown Copyright and dont actualy belong to me???

As the wording is now (and has been for some time), the work has to be produced as part of your official duty. Private photos are not covered and does not fall under CC.

Here is a quote from my correspondence with DIPR-CC:

“Whether photographs taken by service personnel are Crown Copyright or not is not always an easy question to answer. It is certainly not automatic that they are.”

During WWII this was not so in the states.

As mentioned above, the same photo can be classified differently in different countries. If a photo is public domain in the states, it can be freely used in the states. However, it can still be protected by copyright law in the UK.

Don’t disagree, but the point is that some of the material in IWM or RAFM posession wasn’t taken by Servicemen, but by Press photographers or private individuals

In that case its unlikely that it was ever Crown Copyright (unless somehow commissioned).

Focke-Wulf Fw 200 Condor (although they are working on one in Technical Museum in Berlin, but AFAIK they are missing substantial parts).

This is the one badly damaged by heavy snow a few weeks back.

    Roger Smith.

Yes, its slightly insane they keep such a rare aircraft outside, after spending a considerable amount of time and money on the restoration.

Don’t confuse material held by the RAF Museum or IWM with material that has Crwon Copyright. Some undoubtedly does fall under CC, but there is also a substantial body of work whose rights are NOT Crown Copyright, but the original Copyright holder’s rights have been assigned to the museum. In that case, copyright exists in the material 70 years from the death of the original holder.

I have a suspicion much of the Charles Brown collection falls under that.

I have discussed the extend of Crown Copyright with MOD Directorate of Intellectual Property Rights Copyright Unit (DIPR-CC). Currently the wording of what constitutes CC material is, that the content should have been made as part of the creators official duty.

However, in the states during WWII everything created by servicemen while on duty, is a work of the United States Federal Government and thus now in public domain.

DIPR-CC was unable to inform me, if this US style wording was used for material produced by British servicemen during WWII.

Since the nation was at war, Im inclined to think that it was. Placing all material produced while serving under Crown Copyright. But its nothing I have been able to get clarified.
