Never again now eh? Poor Sabena, I miss you. If I ever had a daughter I would call her Sabena.
Love Gulf Air. Full Stop.
I feel sorry for Gulf Air they have served the region for years and then along comes Emirates, Oman air and now Etihad taking business away from their hubs. What next a Bahrain Airways nicking the Bahrain business.
The A310 was one of my fabourite aircraft. I quite liked the 762 as well. I hate the 763, however.
Abu Dhabi is Gulf Airs teritory, how dare this new airline rain on their parade! Dont let them win GF!
I must have made 20 or so trips on the old 732 during the 80s, primarliy a couple of times each year on package holidays. I hated them then, always wishing we were on a brand new 757. Now they are become a rare sight, I miss them. They were cuddly and ickle noisy buggers. I would like a ride once again on one, pity Ryanair have most of the ones left. I wont fly them even for a go on the 732.
Good luck to our headmaster though and enjoy your trip. It will take you back!
I suppose Jet2 are OK. I would fly them over any of the other no-frills. They did good taking on BD at LBA and their ludicrous fares.
They are proud to be a Yorkshire airline as well and I like the Yorkshire rose they have painted on their aircraft. Dont you wanna be me mucker LBA?
Its time the 777 was put on the Entebbe route. The 767 in BA service should only serve routes to Europe and thin US routes.
Get rid of the 767 for Lusaka and Entebbe, please BA!
I thought that might wind you up! I bet you are a nice lad really. Let us Yorkshire lads be friends. Luv x
Im a bit older and wiser than you sunshine and I have worked in the tour operating sector some years ago. I have COTOP qualification and have wrote a dissertation on the development of the package holidays and vertical integration.
I am just making an observation. I have a fondness for Airtours, they were cheap and cheerful and unpretentious but Mytravel branding was a mistake as was the move upmarket with cruises and long-haul holidays, their customers were not high spenders but your average family wanting a cheap holiday with reasonable standards of accommodation.
How unlike you to disagree with me LBA! Mytravel have only themselves to blame, they overreached themselves. I do feel sorry for the workforce though. The company always seem to have a friendliness and optimistic outlook.
Try 4 and half hours to Tenerife or Larnaca. Sat at the back like 3rd class citizens! Its ridiculous, if people dont want to pay for a meal, fine let then travel with Ryanair or Baby but please no more airlines cutting out the hot meal!!!!
MyTravels problems were they grew too fast, they wanted to take on Thomson and become the dominant force in the charter sector. They paid way too much for Inter European/Aspro and then proceeded to sell their packages on cost and not quality. The result was more than a few appearances on Watchdog which affected their reputation. So they then rather stupidly changed their name to MyTravel involving a huge rebrand and tried to save money by cutting customer service and charging passengers for a meal on-board.
They continued to operate a motley assortment of aircraft including old DC10s and 757s that were maintenance heavy and often suffered long delays again affecting customer loyalty.
The company has always seemed to be made up of a happy bunch of people. Its cabin staff are amongst the most friendly and I wish them well.
I never thought for one minute they would heat it up. I think it was a joke. The airlines nowadays charge you for water and wont give you so much as a shortcake biscuit, so they would hardly heat passengers food for nowt!
If I have no choice and no full-service carrier is available on the route I want to fly, than I would take a lovely cold collation packed carefully into me Tupperware for in-flight consumpton.
My nanna once went on one. She is a lady used to the Oriana and before that the Canberra. She said the Airtours ships were like being on Stena Sealink vessel Dover-Calais!
