I thought there was a German or Russian delta (prop powered) that flew before the X-92.

The AN-225 is by FAR the heaviest.

The Blackjack really drives home what an accomplishment the B-70 was. Second only to the Blackjack in takeoff weight ( 540,000 lbs) and Mach 3 to boot.

It is interesting believe me i just asked because, number one i am not in the mood for arguments, i am planing more to know the designs that flew before the XF-92, but i can not recall any other aircraft with a pure delta that flew before the XF-92, and at least as a pure jet aircraft the XF-92 was the first.

Of course can you mention those design that flew first?

For example i know that the germans used ejection seats in propeller driven aircraft in WWI but i do not know the model, i guess the Me-109 was it?

While a bungee-assisted escape from an aircraft took place in 1910, the ejector seat as we recognise it today was invented in Germany during World War II. Prior to this, the only means of escape from an incapacitated aircraft was to jump clear, and in many cases this was difficult due to injury, the difficulty of egress from a confined space, the airflow past the aircraft and other factors.

The first ejector seats were developed during the war by Heinkel. Early models were powered by compressed air and the first aircraft to be fitted with such a system was the Heinkel He 280 prototype jet fighter in 1941. One of the He 280 test pilots, Helmut Schenk, became the first person to escape from a stricken aircraft with an ejector seat on January 13, 1942 after his control surfaces iced up and became inoperable. This aircraft never reached production status, and the first operational type to provide ejector seats for the crew was the Heinkel He 219 night fighter in 1942.

In late 1944, the Heinkel He 162 featured a new type of ejector seat, this time fired by an explosive cartridge. In this system the seat rode on wheels set between two pipes running up the back of the cockpit. When lowered into position, caps at the top of the seat fitted over the pipes to close them. Cartridges, basically identical to shotgun shells, were placed in the bottom of the pipes, facing upward. When fired the gases would fill the pipes, “popping” the caps off the end and thereby forcing the seat to ride up the pipes on its wheels, and out of the aircraft.

Except isn’t it a completely new aircraft, not a modification of an An 124?

Fuselage extensions, new wing root sections to extend the wingspan and add 2 more engines, and a completely new aft fuselage end and tail surfaces… I guess it could count as a modification… if you really push the term.

I think that we are well off-track of the original purpose of this thread… modifications to existing designs.

None of the “wierd designs” meet this definition, as they were designed the way they are, not modified from an existing design.

Modification is a very vague term, the Su-27IB is called Su-32 and basicly is a wierd modification of a fighter, you might called weird if you do not like it or cool if you like it, the An-225 is basicly an An-124

same can be applied to the Su-33KUB aka Su-27KUB

    Jalisco manufactures unmanned aircraft

    2007-04-03

Hydra Technologies, unmanned aircraft manufacturer, requested a US$2
million.support from the Ministry of Economic Promotion to enter the
    international market.

The Minister of Economic Promotion, Guillermo Martinez, said that
even the Pentagon is interested in the prototypes.

He said that these products have been developed in Jalisco for two
years now and the company received support for one million in 2006.

An unmanned aircraft is used in agriculture, or to deal with safety
    or drug-dealing problems.

Martinez Mora said that electronic industry is a role model for
other production sectors so that Jalisco stands-out among the first
    in Mexico.

    9 Apr 2007] /Lenta.ru/
Inter-departmental task team for aviation industry development has approved a task for United Aircraft-building Corporation (UAC). The UAC is to manufacture in 2008-2012 15 Il-96s, 84 Tu-204/214s, 236 Sukhoi Super Jet-100s and 96 An-148s. It is noteworthy here that An-124 is not on that list, while Tu-334 is under consideration for the time being.

Earlier several companies had expressed their willingness to purchase An-124 aircraft from the UAC. For example, Volga-Dnepr wanted to acquire 12 An-124-100s before 2015. And air company Polyot pre-supposed to purchase at least 5 such aircraft until 2012.

It will take 143 billion rubles to build the planned airliners.
The state will allocate 18 billion rubles for this purpose. As for the rest of the funds, it should be taken on credit from markets, but interest on credits will be compensated from budget.

The UAC has been founded in order to sharply increase the production of the domestic civil aircraft. Now Russia builds less than 10 aircraft a year. The UAC incorporates state share holdings of Sukhoi Co., Ilyushin, Finance Leasing Co., Aviaexport and others. The state holds over 90,1% of the UAC shares.

Italian Helicopters to Be Assembled in Ulan-Ude

As Kommersant reports, OPK Oboronprom has begun negotiations with the Italian Augusta Westland ((in Latin letters)) on the licensed assembly at the Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant of the AW-139 helicopter with a takeoff weight of 6 tonnes.

It is planned to sign a framework agreement in May. In the opinion of industry experts, the realization of this project will allow Augusta Westland to consolidate its positions not so much in the Russian market, as in the worldwide, where the high demand for helicopters of the AW-139 type will last for 10 – 15 years.
