G-BJZZ/G-HUNN
Hello,
I try to find out a bit more of the history from the HA 1112 S/N 235 (current reg. as N109GU or NX109GU).
I have found this accident:

Got someone a photo of this plane before this accident? I dont know the colors, numbers, camouflage. Is the plane flyable or is it grounded? In the last years I was not able to find a picture outside of the hangar.

Update: I was able to find a text about the history.

David,
As you can see from the AAN, that is the former Robs Lamplough/Charles Church machine G-BJZZ/G-HUNN.
This was used in the TV series ‘A Piece of Cake’, and the Memphis Belle movie, and was later sold to the Cavanaugh Flight Museum.

Not sure if they still fly it, and I can’t say I know anything else of it’s history, other than I’m pretty sure it was in the BoB movie.
Below is a picture of the machine taken at DX in 1988. (Copyright Mick Bradford)
Does anyone have any more info on the above event to be held on Weds 15 July 09?
Is it open to the public and will there be any (historic) flying at the event?
Thanks,
Nick
Not sure if it’s open to the public, as it’s not down on Popham’s 2009 event list, but I’m sure someone will be able to confirm this.
As for Historic aircraft, Peter Vacher’s Hurricane is booked for the event.

Lovely Day!
Quite a bit of aerial activity over here today.
(Well, it was a nice day). 🙂
Of note were a small & fast sporty looking thing to the north heading West, and back, something red and fast (SF.260 or the like) heading North, and later on in the day, a Tiger Moth with a Chipmunk for company heading North West at about 7.PM.

Running repairs.
Mark
Thanks Mark.
I now see the black thing is a jack in the blown up pics.
Couldn’t quite decipher what it was in the original image and thought for some reason you’d done an observation test for us using Photshop! 🙂

Fantastic Work Steve!
I’ve been watching this thread for a while now and it’s been great to see the progress of the project through to it’s finish.
I don’t think I’ve seen an R/C Spitfire looking so much like the real thing, and with so much attention to detail put in to it. 😀
Well done Steve!
Really was worth all that time of yours I guess, as can be seen by Mark12’s comparison shot. 🙂
Btw, Mark, is it me or does AR213 appear to be missing it’s tailwheel your pic?
Cheers

David,
The pilot in the first picture is Charlie Brown.
It looks like Cliff Spink flying the Blair Buchon. He seems to be it’s regular ‘Jockey’, although John Romain also flies it too. Btw, Cliff was also one of the pilots of ‘Black 6’ when it was flying.
The other pilot of ‘Black 6’ was Dave Southwood, whilst the late Reg Hallam made the first post restoration flight of ‘Black 6’ at Benson.
So, the following pilots of ‘Black 6’ were: –
John Allison
Charlie Brown
Dave Southwood
Cliff Spink

Stearman G-AZLE heading for Goodwood at approx 17.15, and returning home I assume at 18.00.

La-9
as for the Bearcat and Fury, i remember Ray Hanna saying that the La-9 was better than either of those
Yes, I recall these comments also.
Basically he said that if he was flying the Bearcat, Sea Fury or a Corsair of that period and he was up agianst the La-9, he’d be worried! 🙂

P-51 Mustang’s ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ and ‘Janie’ were in residence at Headcorn today shortly afterwards to be joined by Peter Teichmans’ Hangar 11 Collection Spitfire MK XI. Nice!
‘Janie’ went up quite a few times whilst I was there and it was the first time Ive seen the MK XI in the flesh.
Found some video of them here (no Stearmans I’m afraid Y11F) : –

Did you film them by any chance also?

Confused!
I must admit I’m even more confused than before!
First I thought that operators of aircraft such as the DC-3 and the like had to comply with the new EU-Ops if they wanted to continue the carrying of fair paying passengers, albeit at great expense to embody the required mods to meet the directive, and the reasoning for them no longer being able to carry out passenger flights, hence all the outrage that it caused.
Then I heard that it was actually down to each EU member states Aviation regulatory body to apply to the EU for an exemption for these type of aircraft. But after reading No.10’s response in the link, it would seem that it’s actually down to the operators of the affected aircraft to apply for the exemption.
Given that a Dove, Rapide, and Twin Pioneer have been granted exemptions by the CAA (I assume these are all operated by the same company or organisation that operates a fleet of Dakotas) how come they have not applied for an exemption for the DC-3’s also?
Is it because it’s not actually as simple as No.10’s response makes out, or is it indeed a U-turn by the EU as AndyG says? Maybe someone with more knowledge of EU-OPs or an operator of such aircraft can clarify all this!

PV270 was the second of the three ex Burmese Spitfires to be sold by the US recovery team. The deal included choosing the better wings from SL633/UB425/”UB424″.
The attached shot of SL633 in Rangoon shows the wings, minus gear doors…and fitted with the Harvard tail fin and screen etc.
Mark
Thanks Mark.
I must admit, I always get a tad confused as to what the deal was on those Burmese Spits, and where they & their various parts & bits ended up!
I’m pretty sure though it’s all been discussed here in the past, so I’ll do some searching.
Cheers

Good spot Paul. I had not noticed that.
Definitely Seafire gear doors.
Mark
Ah good!
I was beginning to think I was imagining it!
Am I right in thinking that there were none with the airframe was acquired?
