I spied this Hurricane being rolled out of the hangar at Area 51 yesterday afternoon. Could someone ID it please? Is it a new restoration or a repaint to an existing Hurricane?

My guess is it is the former Real Aeroplane Company example (G-HURR), now with Spitfire Ltd. 😉

I must say, she looks very nice indeed and thanks for posting the pic! 🙂

No you are not wrong. The scheme we are applying is indeed the authentic 57 OTU (Hawarden) scheme, coded JZ-E. The Red/White/Blue/ bounce stripes can easily be applied to this scheme for a while, perhaps for some photos. 🙂

    Thanks for the clarification Mark.

And it would be lovely if they were applied on a temporary basis. 🙂

So that is means it must be true then!!!

No, thats’ something I meant to say!

On the other hand though, I might have jumped the gun because it said it WAS going to be finished in the 57 OTU scheme, and I assumed it would be with the bounce stripes! :p

    No chance. 🙁

    Mark

    Shame. 🙁

I’m sure at least one of the mags said it would be.

And the paint on the wings in one of the pictures looked like dark green & ocean grey, but I might be wrong!

I recall there was a vote post by TomW on here ages ago as to which scheme people thought she should be painted in after the rebuild, and I’m sure this was the winner.

Still, regardless of paint scheme, it will be nice to see her airworthy again.

    Cheers

    Thanks for the update Jack.

Look forward to seeing the completed paint job.

Out of interest, would you be able to tell us what she weighed in at?

Hot damn, that looks good! 😀

    Sure does! 🙂

Nice now the spinner is fitted & siamese exhausts.

Can’t wait to see her in the air.

Now all she needs is a 3 bladed Rotol prop to add to the authenticity! 😀

There was a large news story on this in last months Pilot magazine (in the Old Timers section) which gave a bit more detail than in the other mag. I know Pilot is not really aimed at the vintage aviation enthusiast, but they do get the odd exclusive from time to time.:)

Yes, this was probably the best article on the subject.

It also had a picture and update on AR213! 🙂

    Good to hear this Apogee.

Nice to know it’s being put back to ‘stock’ condition. 🙂

With his involvment with Spitfire ltd, I wonder if we’ll get to see it based at Duxford for a while?

    Very nice indeed.

    Looks fantastic! 🙂

I assume that the siamese exhausts are still going to be fitted?

    Elwick,

I’m sure your questions will be answered from the ‘Horses Mouth’, as Peter Holloway along with those closely involved with Old Warden & the Shuttleworth Collection post here a fair bit! 😉

Saw it on the local news this evening:

(Click on Meridian South East, Evening Bulletins, and then select Sun Eve 11/03/07 for the report).

Let’s hope the pilot pulls through.

This was broadcast on tv years ago and I have it on a VHS tape some where!

You could have a bootleg, as I seem to recall seeing it advertised in the magazines a long time ago, with a different cover.

And the quality of the production seemed professional to me.
