Oh, I searched via his Service Number. Otherwise i’d find other Warnes etc, but bear in mind people being commisioned after being an other-rank, I think they had different numbers in that instance.

But foremost I am English, and having not been invaded by force since 1066, I don’t intend to see some unelected fat prick on an expense account throw away the last of this country’s character for no good. I live in atown built on a fishing industry. Thanks to our PM in the 70’s, who gave away all the fishing rights for British fishging waters, we have NOT ONE SINGLE TRAWLER LEFT. Last ones were mothballed last year. The grounds are fished out by everyone who wants to make some money, and we feed the whole continent. Cod stocks are messed up, and they aren’t the first. I can see Spanish trawlers as close in as I can cast my lines sometimes. Except I don’t bother anymore – there’s nothing left by the beach anymore.

Squadron Leader Warnes and Flight Lieutenant
Blackshaw have participated in a great number
of sorties, achieving many successes. On one
occasion these pilots attacked and sank an armed
trawler, whilst on another sortie they delivered a
destructive attack on a distillery. In low level
raids on enemy airfields and other ground targets
they have invariably pressed home their attacks
with great determination. Squadron Leader
Warnes, who wears contact lenses to correct his
sight for flying, and Flight Lieutenant Blackshaw
have displayed high qualtities of leadership and
outstanding keenness.

the following awards in recognition of gallantry displayed
in flying operations against the enemy: —

Reserve, No. 263 Squadron.
Since the award of the Distinguished Flying
Cross this officer has been engaged on numerous
operational sorties, both by day and night, which
have included low level attacks on heavily defended
railway targets and attacks on enemy shipping.
One night in May, 1943, Squadron Leader Warnes
participated in the destruction of a medium sized
motor vessel. He has displayed considerable powers
of leadership and his skill and enthusiasm have
been an example to others.

Cheers Damien. I already ordered an extra with the camera – pity, I could have got 3 for that price! They’re now £15. I didn’t even think 7dayshop did that kind of battery – bummer. I have been using that place since 1994-ish. One warning, the compatible inks they sell for the Epson’s are CRAP – half the normal amount of ink, and clog up very easily. I usually bung colorjet in and they are great. ah well.
