The current buzword is “AFFORDABLE STEALTH” and the F-35 aswell as UAV/UCAV designs (all over the world) are working to acheiving just that. This approach is the most lucrative for serious players to pursue and we’ll see it being incorporated even further . Also Stealth has expanded and will do further in the overall scheme of things rather then just RCS reduction and IR supression to other areas as mission expansion etc etc. The next big thing may not be a stealth design that is significantly lowered RCS but just might be revoulutionary in its application, maintainance and longivity.

I think this is the best post in the thread.

“Stealth” is a term that has been misused and *******ized to the point of nonsense. Never was low-observability meant to render an object invisible or invulnerable. Rather, it was applied simply to reduce it’s detectability and the time the opponent had to react. Accordingly, opponents learned ways to defeat this via sound, heat, etc.

No physical object made of any material known to man moving through our atmosphere at any detectable speed is “invisible.” Its physical impact on the molecules around it is imminently detectable in relation to the technology used to create it.

The F-117 looks cool and all, but it is a 1970’s take on evading basic radar waves. In 1982, it was one Hell of an achievement. Today, it ain’t quite so much…..

I agree, JoeinTX. Bring It On says it well in his post : “AFFORDABLE STEALTH”.
New radar technologies and other detecting devices makes it just to expensive to focus on “all aspect stealth designs”. Just look at the JSF. It`ll
be the latest stealth aircraft, and still it`s the least optimised stealthfighter, due to cost issues. Even the first stealthy aircraft, the F-117 have more optimised overall signatures. The real differences lies in the maintainance, and
    life cycle costs.

Seems like the same problem as Norway has. Maybe we should look over the
border to Sweden, and learn from them how to desing an airforce-structure
that`s very hard to take out. Finnlands and the Swiss airforce also have some nice adittional airstrip-structures, but not in the same class as Sewden.
To bad our sweet F-16MLU`s is`nt suited for our rough and short roadstrips.
And with only a few airfields/airports thats abel to operate our F-16 fighters,
    we are very wounerbal.

Some of the reasons the F-2 is’t debated in this forum, would be the fact thats it’s not exported to other contrys, and most of the info and news about the fighter is written in japanese… I would love to see Japan make their own super-fighter, since its such an technological advanced contry. Ever been in Tokyo? You almost feel you have traveled some years in to the future… They got some nice toilets there, I’ll tell you:)

    Hi all

i recently purchased a oxygen mask and it has a q1 just above where the switch nozzle would be i was just wondering if this tells wherther the mask is a p or q oxygen mask?

    many thanks

    Nathan

I`m not sure, since their design are the same, only the sise being different.
Q being the small one and P the large one. I`ll assume you have a RAF mask since you was wondering if it was a Q or P mask. If the person you bought it from has more of them and their equal in looks but different in size, you would
know what type you have. Sorry if this wasnt of any help.

How about the Royal Saudi Arabian AF? Are their pilots well trained? How’s their maintence? I only know they got a nice fleet of fighters, with proper support.

    Hehehe….

    You are joking I’m sure.

Battlefield has a very poor flight models…period. 🙂

Yup. I mostly play LOMAC, for an more realistic fight.. Maybe I’ll try Falcon4.0 some day. I’m not much of a fighter ace in BF2, since I’m mostly on the ground, due to all the teamkilling on the airports. Does anyone here know anything about the J-10 avonics, radar, and EW systems? Atleast we know the SH’s are hot.

Hi, Doug97. I like the Falkland movie ida… I would definitive had Ridley Scott to make it sweet. Just look at the fantastic Black Hawk Down. Thats one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.

You`re right. So it does. My mistake:o
But I hold my card on Sweden. Along with Japan, but maybe Japan is a bit
to large to fall into this tread? Such an imperium would be expected to have a
    large and powerful airforce…

Thanks, ATFS. Lot of movie titles. I`ve seen a few of them, but most of the
titles you posted I`ve never heard of. Personal, I`m not a big fan of historical
movies from the ww1/ww2 era. I`m more a fan of modern jetfighters!!

Nice looking bird. I would put a questionmark behind the 20000m service ceiling…
Post some cockpit pic`s. That would be cool:cool:

Anyone here playing Battlefield2?? If we use that game to settle the scores
between the different fighters JSF, J-10, F-18, the J-10 would be superior:D

Hi, PLA. Merry Xmas!! I know you want your new fighterdesign to be manned, but I was wondering if you have heard of the “Goldeneye” 80 UAV project??
It`s quite simular to your demand`s, exept it a UAV. Take a look at the links
I posted below, or search the web and judge for yourself 🙂

The SH is quite an advanced fighter: AESA, low RCS, new com. links etc. While the SU-30MKI like fighters are most likely better air to air platforms. Under equal operating situations and support, it most likely comes down to the one with the better training if you put two advanced fighters one on one, or even more so in a 10 on 10 fight… Thats my thoughts, and I’m sure many here will agree with that.

Regardless, I am with you in thinking the RAAF would be better off with the F-15K as a stop-gap until the arrival of the F-35. Clearly, the Strike Eagle is a much more capable Striker than the Naval Super Hornet! IMO

I wasnt just thinking of it as a stop-gap until the arrival of the F-35. I want
the F-15K like Strike Eagle to operate with the JSF in the future…
That would be an nice combo, wouldnt you think!! Ofcourse, the F-22, JSF combo would be the best solution…
