Les Chevaliers du ciel… In Norway it`s called “Sky Fighters”.
That`s one ****ty movie, if you ask me:mad:
Please post some blockbuster movie titles worth seeing, if anyone have
someone in their mind:) The only good fightermovie I`ve seen has to be
“Topgun”. A bit unrealistic, but a lot of entertainment!!
Some days ago I watched a new serie on TV, here in Norway called something
like “Bermuda Triangel?”. Anyway, on one of the episodes some people was
out in the seas with their boat in an millitary restricted area, and were attacked by armed V-22 “Osprey”. That was kinda cool…
How`s that for your new “CAS” platform??
Maybe it`s a bit of an easy target, and to large and sophisticated for your
logistics needs… Any thoughts, PLA??
Thats not F-15Es empty weight but take-off weight of an F-15C 😉
Its about 14,6 tons without and 16,5 tons with CFTs. Thats operating weight as can be found here: http://www.f-15estrikeeagle.com.
The Super Hornet with 13,8 is only 800kg short of the F-15E and thats for the single seater. Add a few hundred kg of weight and subtract a few hundred kg of fuel for the F.
Dry thrust is combarable for both engines.Very important for Australia is range. Here the F-15E is clearly the winner. Unfortunately, the F-111 has never seen a real successor. Maybe the FB-22/23 or something like that will be one, but for now the F-15E is closest. Second is the F-35 and third F-22. The Lightning actually outranges the Raptor.
Last option is the Super Hornet of course. 🙂
Forget the SH and go for Strike Eagle.
Could you post the range figures you have on the Strike Eagle, SH, JSF, and Raptor??
Thanks for correcting me, OzVark. Nice info. I’m suprised by the Australian Goverment’s blindness to see all the amazing alternatives they have in their future fighters choice. So fixated on their future solo F-35 force, not bothering to look at even better solutions for their well respected airforce…
I would like to put some question-marks behind the range figures. The F-15 has always been one of the best fighters when it comes to range. If those figures are made up from estimated calculation, they are definitive wrong.
Clearly, the RAAF needs both the F-22 and F-35!:diablo: Now we need just to find a way to pay for them……………….
Agree, but since the US export laws prevents that I would go for the F-15K like solution I mention earlier. The EF or Rafale might be better performancers, but their future F-35 purchase makes the F-15 the better solution due to weapons integration, US combined training support etc.
Its included in the ones we aren’t supposed to talk about here 🙂
WHY? Nor Israel or Sweden are large nations (6/8 mill inhabitants)… Bangladesh? Don’t know, but training is definitive one of the most important aspects!
I think the UAV’s will make this the actual or similar combat setup in the near future.
Why use a plane with a pilot, or have I misunderstod your aircraft-design PLA?
If Norway choose JSF to be our future fighter, this would be my pick :
Type: F-35A
Engines: GE F-136
Wing: Larger Navalbased
Landing Gear: Navalbased
GUN: Internal Gun
Refueling System: International Drogue Type
Weapons: IRIS-T, Meteor, Stormshadow, JDAM, Kongsberg NSM,
PavewayII/IV, AGM-65D, AGM Armiger, some new type clusterbombs?, UGB`s,
Litening III pod:)
Nice one, PLA. I can see you have thought on this for a while…
One great aspect of your new master tactics/ alternative ground support
would be that the original CAS figthers will be even better suited to their
other CAS tasks like keeping the skies free for enemy airattacks on your
own troops. Wich in my opinion are an equal priority on todays demanding
CAS roles/missions.
How about Israel. Modern fighters, good weapons and training. And those nasty EW-suites everyone wish they had. Sweden also got one of the better airforces…
Why not buy some brand new F15K/J?, and use them together with the F-35’s in the future. An great combo if you ask me.
I’ll think they best of choosing the cheapest deal. Tought Gripen would be better than some old F16MLU in the longer run.
Personal I have`nt made up any opinion if this is the right decission for
Norway or not, since I dont know what the new MOU looks like.
But maybe someone on this forum knows? Or have an personal opinion:)
If Norway doesnt buy JSF, but ex. Gripen or Eurofighter, will Norway still
be regarded as an equal JSF partner with possible workshares??
Anyone who has some new information of the Gripen N? All I’ve read is: They are dubbeling the range, new engine with 40% more power, satellit com, AESA, upgraded weaponsystems, and countermeasures, and maybe new hardpoints design.
