Well these are fantastic photos.New Zealand certainly seems to be leading the way in WW1 aircraft reconstructions and also new-build engines, both rotary and inline.Does anyone know what the total number of 1st World War reproductions are in New Zealand and what they are specifically?I didn’t even know there was a DH5 flying. Thanks in anticipation.
Thanks Daniel:)
Well done Daniel for being privvy to this gen, always good to hear of a new recovery. Will you post photos?,it would be really great to see them.
Don’t get me wrong, I read aviation history, but its not what I buy magazines for. I will pick up an aviation mag in the newsagents because I’m interested in whats happening now, not what happened 70 odd years ago, and its the preservation content that will decide whether I buy it or put it back on the shelf.
I totally agree with you especially your other post 22,re indepth rebuild articles. All technical details and obstacles that have to be overcome the better.I am sure there would be enough of a following to make it viable.Warbirds Worldwide was ok,don’t know why it folded.I had taken it since the first issue and had just renewed my subsciption when it ceased production which was a bit of a blow, surely it should have been priced to ensure viability.
Just googled in Classic Aircraft and it says nothing about ending in December, infact if you look at future issues it goes up to 2014,unless the website hasn’t been updated?
Sorry to hear that Bob,but thanks for the reply anyway. Please keep us all posted with your progress. All the best.
Bob,going back to your earlier post re an article and photos in Flypast why not try them?.I for one would be interested to read about it and see it and I’m sure lots of others would.Give it a go and good luck with with the Snipe.
Ok thanks for the quick replies, wondered where it was and now I know.Much appreciated, thanks both.
Ok thanks for that. What happened to that two seater then after it left St Athans? Just curious to know.
Is that the two seater that they used to run the engine on at RAF St Athans about 25 years ago?
😉
Do you mean modifying/altering into a two seater? You can’t restore something into something it wasn’t before.
I believe that Hawkers did a few for Persia if I’m not mistaken, could be of course.
Is this the one that was at Shobdon years ago and then belonged to Baker Aeroplane oil company?
Yes superb.liked the shots from inside the Sea Fury showing the rear cockpit especially.Always enjoy seeing the RNHF.
Are they highback or lowback Mk.14’s?,it will be interesting to see what emerges. No doubt a book will be in the offing about the recoveries.Well I hope so anyway, as it has certainly fired peoples imaginations even the non-aviation population.
That’s great hope it all works out.Anyone know any more on the Spitfire mk5’s that are supposed to be dug up in Australia soon?,it was posted on WIX last week.Sorry to divert the thread a bit, but it’s the same sort of thing (buried Spitfires).
