Out of interest, was the average crew age young?
When I flew MAN-DOH-MAN those flights put me off QTR for good (it’s going to take something amazing to make me fly with them again) and as much as I hate to say it, I think the ‘younger generation’ was to blame.
However, on the DOH-DXB-DOH legs the service was much better. On these sectors the crew were predominately middle aged…
The flights were all with a mixed arabic / Filipino cabin crew, both young and not so young, there was a good mixture,
I would not let one experience put you off, I have used Qatar 6 times now and never had to complain, they are excellent.
I recently Flew Qatar from Manchester to Manila Philippines via Doha and return, I would say one of the best airlines I have ever used, service was excellent along with good food and great in-flight entertainment, I would recommend them to anyone.
The Jet2 flights to New York proved successful, I personally hope Jet2 resume the New York service and perhaps Air Transat do the Toronto service.
I cant see continental or American operating out of LBA but maybe I am wrong.
Ah the Tristar ! a cracking aircraft, I flew a series 500 with Royal Jordanian in the late 90s from Amman to Kuala Lumpur, I have to say it was probably the smoothest and most comfortable flight I have ever been on.
Thanks guys appreciate the help

Is BAA not responsible for the maze of Luggage belts behind the scenes at LHR?
Isn’t it this system that cloggs up, misroutes bags and has workers who don’t give a damn?
BA is based at LHR, therefore, their baggage is at the mercy of said system. No wonder they suffer huge baggage issues.LHRs baggage system is old, tired and needs a complete re-invention.
Last I knew, that was BAA’s responsibility. And we all know how reluctant BAA are at investing money. If the above is true, then shoving all the blame for the lost and delayed luggage onto BA is just a matter of convenience and lazy reporting.
Well said bmused55, I have to say I agree with you, lazy reporting as you say.
Its so very easy to knock B.A. when they were not given the opportunity to defend themselves face to face.
Even in the 90s, B.A was struggling along with all the other airlines to keep timekeeping in good order, I notice you have posted a few times regarding “London Airways”
I am sorry, but if you are referring to the amount of regional airports B.A. have pulled the plug on, I have to say they did it to cut costs, if B.A. were still flying out of places like the Isle of Man, Leeds/Bradford etc, they would not be around today.
In this day and age, with high fuel costs, you can not expect any airline to keep unprofitable routes open, so I do not agree with your comments, it is the fault of Heathrow…..4th biggest economy in the world and its main airport Heathrow is crammped, can we be proud of that ?
re B.A
Hi.
Yes, I watched the despatches programme and although some points are true, I find alot of the programme unfair.
I feel alot of the problems of B.A. are Heathrow itself, B.A. would not need to cancel so many flights and have as many delays if there was extra runway capacity, secondly, I feel the programme was unfair to compare flight cancellation rates with Air Malta and other smaller airlines who only have a few aircraft.
If Amsterdam was as cramped as Heathrow, would KLMs cancellation rate be as bad as B.A. ?????
On the other subject of safety, what are they on about, the 777 crash at Heathrow was not the fault of any engineering or crew errors, in fact the skill of the pilots got the plane down, secondly, I feel to this day that B.A, are one of the safest airlines to fly with and I know of many foreign friends around the world who choose B.A. simply because they feel safe with them.
I am not a B.A, employee, but I suspect the e.mails of the engineers to the despatches programme were probably from a militant minority of B.A. engineers.
We all know that B.A. have had a bad year, and B.A. knows that it needs to improve, Heathrow needs extra runway capacity and that would go a long way in limiting cancellations and improving time keeping.
No doubt the B.A. bashers will have more to say on this.

So, anyone who visits LBA often, please answer this.
Lets assume Ryanair have a base at Leeds/Bradford and eventually fly to 20 different destinations, that means possibly 4-5 of Ryanairs aircraft based there, if you add all the Jet2 aircraft, plus BMI, Eastern etc, where will all these aircraft park at night ?
I am all for competition, but I consider Ryanair a bully, Michael O Leary arrogant, and the standard of service poor although they are cheaper than Jet2. ( this is just my opinion and many wont agree )
For those that criticise Jet2, I have flown with them over 20 times, only one of my flights was late, I have never had a bag go missing, on board service and cabin crew have always been excellent and friendly and although some, if not all their aircraft are old ( who cares ) they are maintained well.
LBA would not be acheiving almost 3 million passengers this year if it was not for Jet2, They took the bold decision to set themselves up at Leeds, we have to applaud that.
I may sound like I am contradicting myself here, but if Ryanair do base aircraft at LBA, lets hope they fly to routes that Jet2 do not operate to, My fear though is that they will compete on the same routes as Jet2 and push them out of the LBA which would be a disaster.
Just typical brits who cant handle drink and resort to violence and thuggery because they cant get what they want.
Its repeated in our towns and streets, lets face it, we are a sick violent nation. ban booze on flights or limit every passenger to 2 glasses each.
Shame the plane was not at 10,000ft where you could open the door, I would have kicked them out. !
Any airline could go bust in the current climate, however, I feel B.A. are in a stronger position than most purely because they keep costs and waste as low as possible, scrap unprofitable routes, they are better run than stuggling airlines like Alitalia, Olympic and many more.
In the current climate, and if oil prices surge to $200 a barrell as some predict, then only the strong airlines will survive, B.A. being one of them, I can see alot of the low cost airlines going though.
I believe its something to do with reduction gear boxes in Propeller driven aircraft, A jet engine turns much faster, thus making more thrust.
Hi
PIA are to commence there twice weekly Dircet flights from Leeds/Bradford to Islamabad with an Airbus A310-300 aircraft by late next month or early July.
All Shaheen Air’s forward flight bookings have also been transfered over to the PIA new route or have been offered MAN flights througout June.
Correct me if I am wrong, but A310s and 747s of PIA have been banned from European skies ???
well everyone, at least us spotters have a hobby, something to do with our spare time, we should be proud of ourselves, at least we dont act like thugs, take drugs, drink ourselves to oblivion and cause untold violence like alot of our fellow citizens……lets be proud of our hobby, we are above all that.
